Edited on FCPX 10.3 (Also, what is that song? Please help!)

FCPX 10.3 has been launched 4 days ago and already Premier users have started bashing it on various forums. Why don't they just use their software if they like it and leave FCPX users alone. I use Avid, Premier and FCPX, and especially with this new version FCP is by far my favourite. Anyway, we already have one commercial that was edited on this "amateur" piece of software, and the Apple made video on the FCPX page.

Thomas Grove Carter edited this Audi commercial

And Apple posted this video on their website images.apple.com/media/us/final-cut-pro/...161018_1280x720h.mp4

Can somebody please tell me what is that song at the start and the end of the second video!? I'm obsessed with it, but can't find it anywhere. Thank you!

Anyone who bashes FCPX has no clue, and is not an adult. Ignore them.

Thomas was here at the FCPX Creative Summit and showed how that spot was edited in FCPX. Great spot!

It is the theme from a very old British TV show called "Are You Being Served." Showing my age, but I LOVED that show. Very catchy tune with a story behind it.

Thanks for the reply man! I would've loved to have been there to see Thomas' presentation! I hope the video will emerge soon on FCP.CO. It is a great spot indeed!

I watched "Are you being served." as well, I loved it! I have the collection on DVD. I recognized that song, but I was wondering about the song in the second video I posted, the one that's on FCPX page, on the Apple website. Cheers!

I've been searching, can't find it. Could have been done exclusively for that spot.

I've been searching all over the place too. Nothing. They should've at least credited the composer... Thanks for helping!

Oh, I thought you were talking about the composer of the music in the second video about the botanical artist. Sorry! :)

I think I'm going to have to go to an Apple store and see if they have FCPX and this sample project on some of their computers. Then I could see the name of the song. :D

There's a good chance that the song in the botanical video was custom made for it, as I'm pretty sure I recognize all the instruments/synths/oohs as being from Logic/MainStage/GarageBand. Someone who was more familiar with Logic could probably confirm whether or not those sounds are produceable by the stock instruments.

This is cuts-only plus a title using high quality footage. Nothing really special about it that any other NLE on the planet couldn't do. Even FCPX 10.0.0, iMovie, etc could do this. Do we at least know if it was color graded in FCPX? FCPX is my favorite for color grading.

NLE should affect the look of a product. If you look at it that way, any commercial could be edited on any software. NLE should enable you to do what's in your head without getting in the way, it shouldn't affect the way video looks. You can't possibly recognize any NLE from looking at what was edited on it.
BTW I don't believe that spot was graded in FCPX.

Yes, I watched the process in person. FCPX got through it very, very fast. There were many more clips than what you see. Many layers of sound effects. It is very deceiving. Not a "simple" cut of supplied clips. Could it have been done in any other NLE? Yes. Could it have been done as quickly as it was in any other NLE? Nowhere close. And in broadcast, time is always against you. It was cut in record time, on an impossible deadline.

For those, who think editing such a project is 'just cuts, possible in iMovie', some insights from the maker himself in this article/videos

I think y'all are trying to oversell things too much. My response was basically to OP's mention of "Anyway, we already have one commercial that was edited on this "amateur" piece of software" as if we're supposed to go "Wow! That's clearly done in a professional NLE I mean look at the result!" Nice, sure, but it doesn't do much to sell FCPX other than that it's a professional commercial done in FCPX. There's nothing that sets it apart from trillions of other commercials out there.

I agree that the NLE should not effect the look of the product. But it can affect your job prospects. Most people on this forum seem to be from somewhere in Europe. Maybe FCPX is more popular over there. Here in the US it's not used in very many places compared to Avid and Adobe. I don't think I've ever seen a single job posting specifying FCPX but I've seen countless specifying Premiere and quite a few specifying Avid. I used to see job postings for Final Cut Pro all the time before X came around and Apple dropped the ball in that area. Regardless of how much you like X, it's not the industry leader that FCP7 and below were. If FCPX is what you know, trying to find a job that's not freelance would be a no-go. Nobody is gonna hire someone who knows the hell outta FCPX but is "willing to learn" Premiere or Avid. They usually need work done ASAP and do not have time to train. But I guess on the flip side of that coin if someone is hiring a FCPX editor, the pool will be shallow and your chances will be much greater. If you're freelance then obviously it doesn't matter what NLE you use. So here where I live FCPX is just that... the freelance's NLE... and nothing more.

I agree we shouldn't solely promote FCP X by what kind of work is being done with it - and a lot of high-profile work is being cut on FCP X these days - but by why people who actually do that kind of work think that FCP X is the best tool for what they do.

And yes, FCP X is very popular in Europe. I come in lots of studios, and I see more and more companies that used to be strictly Avid shops use FCP X now. The biggest problem for them is finding skilled editors who are truly familiar with FCP X in television and film workflows. A friend of mine is desperately looking for FCP X editors right now, while I know quite some Avid and Premiere editors here who are out of work.

It gets a little OT and probably a nice topic for a separate thread.
But in my (german) surroundings - TV (feature + series), Cinema (Narrative, Doc) - it feels like it´s 100% Avid.
