What a horrid attitude. Show us a web site you've designed. I'm done talking to a brick wall.

Horrid attitude? Why? I thought the previous iteration of the website, with the vibrant, well edited, well thought out videos is far better than tired boring template text??

I prefer to hear people talking, not reading boring verbage..That is just me....

What? I find the website VERY informative. And the online help manual is leaps and bounds over other software companies. Maybe some people don't like to read, but it's easier to find what you're looking for than having to watch a video, waiting to see if they even talk about what you want to know.

And there are videos. What do you want? Tutorials? :)

Actually no...Ripple does plenty of those, and why are they absent from the website?? Hell even Brendan Boykin is not mentioned, and he wrote the official training book...

I want to see the "In Action" be in action, like it was when it was dedicated to Final Cut Studio..The BBC was highlighted, showing in action, like as in the verb in the doing, and a few others, even a movie was shown, editors in action, again, video, you know like as in 29,97 frames playing in rapid succession...

I know my text is boring...I designed it so...It fits in with the theme of FCPX website..too many words, no in action video....I would edit all the video for the website, for $0.00 just to make a point...

This is if you have forgotten a video editing app, NOT a text editor, so why the lack of in action video? Nothing good enough to show, or Apple too lazy...I say the later...Or maybe the former...

I prefer editing tv news inserts, drama editing too damn boring, what with all the scripts and directors...With news editing, I make the rules, my edit suite, my rules, the journalists, not interested in the fiddly editing, they voice the insert, and go off home...

This is really odd ... as I find myself in a very rare state ... I actually agree with Justine on a matter.

I find it extremely curious that in all of the marketing pages for a 'Pro' video editing app ... there is one single video file touting the new 3D title features introduced in 10.2 ... and offers 'The 3D titles in this video were built in Motion and published to Final Cut Pro X.' ... which, to a novice, may indicate 3D titles may require Motion 5 in order to accomplish.

Apple is a much better marketing concern than what their site currently offers for FCP X.

Even iMovie has a better demo video than does FCP X. Yes, there is a nice article and a few stills from the Focus film ... not a single clip. They couldn't share the youtube trailer?

In the entire 'In Action' section there is not one single video example of what those highly touted FCP X users create with the app being offered. Not one.

No one else finds that just a little bit odd?

One has to ask, would you buy a camera, lens, mic, etc. without any visual examples of the end products they produce? Better yet ... would you buy a plugin, generator, title, etc. from a developer that did not offer a visual sample what their product is capable of?

Go back and look at the FCP X section of the Apple site with fresh eyes ... as if you had never used the app before, or never used any NLE before ... wouldn't you want to see samples of what is possible? Wouldn't you want to see actual editing procedures highlighting the positive aspects and benefits of the the magnetic timeline? ... instead of just reading about it?

For me, when I made the decision to purchase FCP X, it was the video samples and offerings on the Apple site that convinced me to make the purchase. Not the text or still images.

Reading is wonderful ... we do a lot of that here on the forum ... and there are a great many worthy items to read on the FCP X section of apple.com ... but ... when it comes to marketing a pro quality video editing app ... I don't understand why there wouldn't be at least a few more actual video offerings demonstrating that product being used and/or samples of what it can produce.

One only has to compare ... do Adobe, Avid and Black Magic utilize video files to market their NLE products?

Justine has a very valid point... remember all the PR action around the legacy FCP? Yeah!

But there are two reasons for this.
  1. App Store is responsible for the sales
  2. FCPX is a now a Hobby as it was with the Apple TV

"remember all the PR action around the legacy FCP?"

Actually no. I remember all the complaints about how little Apple put into PR for it, how much non-Apple people did to promote, how slow the development cycle was, and how Apple was abandoning pro apps when it pulled out of NAB in 2007.

Apple had for every update a Demo Reel for FCP, Motion, Shake, DVD Studio Pro... also did have a presence at the NAB until they pulled away from it. Which still more then now.

2004

2005

2006

2007

P.S. for a NLE site insetting video is a pain. ;)

If FCPX had been as successful in its fifth year as legacy was, Apple might still be making demo reels. It simply hasn't been. It may never be, and cock ups like Beats production isn't helping.

Don't get how we went from the Apple ad and the Verge story have no importance as some were saying to Apple isn't putting enough into PR. The Apple ad and Beats is the very antithesis of good PR. At least if you're not going to do promo work, don't pooch it with negative PR, which is the whole point of the thread in the first place.

I think referencing the current FCP X offering on Apple.com further demonstrates that the marketing department may not be keeping a close eye on what appears online within their purview ... which is how the Beats ad may have slipped through ... Is it a single inadvertent slip-up? ... or is it an indicator of a larger problem?

I don't ever expect pure perfection, but for a multi-national corporation that has more money in the bank than nearly any other entity on the planet ... one would hope, there could be a higher level of attention to detail by Apple for such matters.

That said, I have no plans of abandoning FCP X nor am I upset, annoyed or disappointed with Apple or have an axe to grind ... I'm simply sharing my thoughts.

The point of demo videos is two fold, 1-to be inspirational, to give you ideas about the power of the software or hardware portrayed in the video, and 2-aspirational, make you want to have a better system.

The videos from 2004 to 2007 speak of both goals. It was the very video that both gave me the idea that I could have something ultra-professional and something to aspire to, that is be a professional top of the line video editor.

As a news producer, the BBC was the subject of the video, seeing actual editors using the software both in house, and on a mac laptop, inspired me to invest in this technology, both the hardware and the software.

The new version of the website speaks volumes, it is the sin of omission that is a greater sin than commission, having a vast array of clever words strung together does not sell the product, the leaving out of video, of verbal audio testimony sends a clear message, that the product in the eyes of Apple is not one to rate highly.

The leaving out of something in this case video prevents the new user from having inspiration and aspiration. The adobe website, has loads of brilliantly produced video showing the products in action, I have that sense of inspiration and aspiration, as I am a visual audio person, I like moving things, static text simply does not float my boat in the same was as 30 frames per second of audio+video does.

If Adobe came out as a stand alone buy once free updates for the life of the product, I might be tempted to invest, at this point the only stumbling block is the rental only...Too expensive given the exchange rate...

Is Apple using FCPX? I am starting to think maybe they are not to a larger degree, given how poorly the 2 and 1/2 apps play badly together.

It would cost $0.00 to have a few well edited video on the website, even the previous version of Final Cut came with a great dvd...why not redo that as a start..

Does Apple care? Given how badly they do not invest or promote certification, again one with new eyes or someone looking at a career might consider Apple a lost cause, they have only really themselves to blame..The users promoting the brand do it for the love of the brand, they are for the most part not paid, when they should be, they promote the brand, and get really nothing back from Apple....

I can see a slow painful death of FCPX, killed by indifference from Apple, loyal users getting frustrated at bugs not being squashed, simple requests ignored and don't for 1 second this escapes Adobe's attention, if I was using both and a simple common feature was missing from both and Adobe installed this missing feature I might drop FCPX...For now as long as Adobe keeps the rental, I am not subscribing...

Tom the lack of PR, is negative PR, saying something is good, remain silent is bad, and Apple are sorry, have already caused massive damage to the brand of Apple, to the sub brands of Pro Apps.

Public relations is not a static task, it is ongoing every day, using every tool, the brand is judged on how well the message is sent, or not sent, both count just as much.

By remaining silent or not updating the website, the apps, the message sent unintended is this, "We do not care about the product, we see no value in the product, hence we will not invest time and human resources in updating the application or it's associated website".

This may not be the message Apple was to send, but it is the message you get, not spending money tells the user the software is junk, it has no value, do not invest in it...

Again this is made even more clear by the lack of design of robust professional devices, all of the Apple products are of inferior industrial design, the worst culprit, the Mac Pro tower...I have discussed this at length, and I can not see how this is a great example of good industrial design.

Killing off 17 in laptops, equipping laptops with not enough RAM slots, forcing the users to double data with using proxy, again speaks of lack of care in design. The message is clear, this is a slow death of Apple Pro apps in favor of generic imovie....

You had me agreeing with you until your last two paragraphs. I can't tell if you're playing the role of an old school character that refuses to change when technology leaps forward, or if you actually believe these crazy ideas. Those comments now make me think you're an editor for The Onion. Are you?
