Way to go, Ben. Cross-NLE production is a recipe for disaster. Always has been, always will be. Hope you will be able to get through this mess.

I will say this, I am very impressed with how fast FCPX let me fix a totally messed up production. I had the offline copy of the clips and the newly imported online copy side by side in the Browser. Timeline, shift-F to get the original with range. Skim the browser to get the in point timecode. Select the online copy, Home key. Click the dashboard, + and timecode, enter. i for in-point, Option-r for replace from start. Next clip. It was tedious but it was fast.

I did loose all the sync clips. So I lost use of many clips I'd like to have used. I had the video clip without sound. And a sound clip without video. So no really sync available. And many sound clips started WAY sooner than the videos did. I simply did not have the time to manually track all of that down and sync them together.

Also, some clips were jumpy. No matter what, they're jumpy. Clips were from GoPro and BMD 4K cameras. I wonder if it could be the mixture 23.89, 30p, 29.97, 59.94 clips into a 23.98 Project Timeline? I may try a copy and paste into a 30p Timeline, see what I get. That would throw off my retimed clips, but I may try.

Down to basic color grades (mostly just contrast) and done. Hoping the producer likes it. But fixing this was a huge PITA. I have vowed, for the um-teenth time, to never accept a PPro project to work on. As popular as Avid is, no one has ever asked me to work on one in any version of FCP over the years. Whew... lucky me.

Cross-NLE workflows are E-V-I-L!!!!!!!

I have sent you a link to a video which I have shown at IBC and in which you will see how highly skilled professionals use FCP X to cut tons of reality programs each year. The video cannot be made public because it contains copyright-protected images. But it will give you some ideas you can discuss with your friend. If you need more specific arguments, drop me an e-mail or have them call me.

Hey Ronny, I am currently in preproduction for a reality show; would you mind sharing that link with me too? Thanks!
