… and it means, YT could handle it, depnds on which dependance handles you
… once read a report how YT handles load balancing, trans global procesing etc etc ..... every minute 300h material upload (and procesisng), unbelievable ....
What, Jonathan, about other services, namely Vimeo?

The fact that some of us see the artifacts, and some don't, is further proof it is on YT's end.

I haven't watched the video as this board requires Flash when viewd from a computer browser.
Regarding YouTube though, I also like grain and things like that in my videos, but they tend to almost altogether be removed by YouTube compression... Vimeo looks much better!
Another thing I've noticed is that YouTube tend to make my videos look darker, so I have to make a slightly lighter version just for YouTube upload. Haven't uploaded anything to YT in a while though, is that still the same?
And, since YouTube's compression is rather bad anyway, do you really gain much by exporting to ProRes before uploading rather than H.264?
Since moving to Berlin I've only had access to really bad internet so ProRes is out of the question for me for uploads, so I have made do with H.264...

Thanks Ben, Karsten and Dmitri.
I tried to find out if there is some way to get ahold of YT support, but there isn't outside of user forums. Kartsten, I have a Vimeo account but I can only upload 500mb at a time. Although I could probably upload the same test I mentioned before and see if that makes any difference.
My workflow has always been FC>Master file>Compressor (your YT setting here) then upload via YT uploader.
I actually wonder what would happen if I tried to upload the master file which is about 7 GB? I know it would take forever to upload, but at least I'm starting with a totally uncompressed file. The Compressor YT transcode from the master file was about 1 GB.

Good morning, Jonathan,
YT delivers codec-matsch fully agree with Ben, sometimes does, sometimes not... and for res beyond 720, you should give YT and extra hour, or a day…, for final quality.
A while ago (…years to be honest), I made my last test with my own material (less sophisticated than yours), diff codecs, diff settings - esp prores vs highrate h.264 didn't show up noticeable differences - for my dead eyes. Hours of burning bandwidth didn't pay up - at last for me! Perhaps I should repeat with new material from my new cam, which, if I care, delivers exceptional quality. But again, uploading 7Gigs? No way ....
Diff. story with Vimeo: less VW (haha!), more Mercedes of video hosters, the better you upload the better the end poduct ... quality=price...
The usual advice:
good.fast.cheap. Take two ....
and, finally - hey, 2 frames 'blur' most viewers will not notice, and we're discussing for days - LOL!
