MultiCam Audio levels different inside MC vs. on Timeline.

The EQ and limiter in the angke editor is looking at and adjusting the entire angle based on its levels, it's peaks, and it's overall frequencies. In the project the effects are looking only at the content of a single cut, which usually produces a different result because it doesn't have the same level and frequency range as the entire media file.

Tom,

If you have an audio clip inside a mc angle editor, with no effects applied anywhere, it should peak at the same level inside the MultiCam and outside on timeline. Often it does.

But the bug is this: Sometimes, audio gets mastered inside to peak at 0dB, then if you back out to timeline, with nothing else changed, the mix may now be -6dBs, or maybe even +6dBs, for unknown reasons.

This becomes a problem when you want your video to peak at 0dBs. Say you're doing an interview. 2 Video angles, 1 Audio angle. You cut your interview on timeline, everything looks great. Then as final step, you double-click the MC clip to do a final Mastering on the Audio channel inside A.e.. You EQ and Add a Limiter. Audio channel now peaks at 0db.

You then back out to the timeline. But you see your entire project only peaks at -6dbs. So you have to somehow get the audio back up to 0 dBs AGAIN in the timeline. There's clunky ways to do this (Select All on timeline, Opt+G, Add Limiter AGAIN is often what I do.)

Every once in a while it all behaves as it should, but more often than not, for me anyways, there's a mysterious 6 dB change inside-to-outside with no perceivable reason. And it's never consistent. This is the bug. Make sense?

Regardless, I only document this in hopes Apple follows the link I sent in Feedback again.

So I'm experiencing this issue now and wondered if anyone else ever encountered it and had a good resolution.

In short, I have Multicam clips in which I'm setting audio levels, applying my compression and limiter filters on and it sounds peachy when in the Angle Editor.

Unfortunately, when I then apply the MC clips to a Project timeline, the audio is back to being "raw" and sounds like it did before I sweetened it in the Angle Editor. I could swear I've done this before and it works fine. Racking my brain to figure out what's changed.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong in the workflow? Thanks.

EDIT: To clarify, it seems the filters are following through to the Project (I just dropped a distortion filter on to make an obvious change and it worked) but levels are way quieter in the Project timeline, by about the aforementioned 6db

I can also confirm that FCPX (10.5.1)automatically lowers audio volume for tracks in multicam clip abbout -6db. If I increase audio 6db, audio levels are back to normal.

Probably they are using it to avoid clipping, but on 2 cam interview scenarios this is really annoying feature and I wish that there were an option to switch it off.
