Fights only outside the Bar, gentlemen! ;)

My recommendation is based only my observations … 'anecdotal empiricism' :

At the end of the season, I do a 'Year In Review' video - you won't believe what potpourri of hard-ware exist!

exFat doesn't play on 1.Gen Xboxes (DVD also, you needed a $$ update); same for PS1 ad PS3; many stone-old DVDplayers, not able to playback; many, many XP installations still in use on the family PC; most TVs with usb-IN don't like exFat (Samsung…); the 50 client-PCs at work read exFat as 'empty' stick; ... Android users, proud owning a card-slot, need $$ add-ons to teach their devices exFat; .…

And as an Apple affionado: Disks are dead horse - in our Ecosphere for almost for a decade!

summary:
The most common thread is fat32.
exFat and NTSF … I'm noticing, that the other side has more trouble than we fruit dealers....LOL

For my home use I keep things simple, all hfs(+), except the sticks, the coaches needed from each game… they have modern laptops = exFat, …

I stopped a while ago using 'media', I'm a fan of 'cloud', starting to use frequently Google.Drive; constructing a presentation at home (Mac), finishing it in the office (Win7) finally showing that, using 'dumb', iNet connected clientPC…
That's fun - and I don't have to care for formats and such.-

Back to the OP topic, have you considered that it might be your source video? Without looking at it, I can't really tell you if you're expecting too much from DVD compression. If your original was something like 1080i 60 and not shot very well, you could have problems compressing it properly.
