Hi Ronny - That's good enough. And thanks for taking time to reply. The ken Burns in FCPX is so fast and smooth I can work within it's limitations. I've now figured out that if I do freeze frame at the start and end of a Ken Burns clip it will give me what I want. Before I was using the blade tool and then trying to match the crop of the two pieces. Duh!

If you just want to add holds to the start and/or end of a move, consider Alex Gollner's free Smooth Move. It includes Ease options. LIke other solutions, you may need to make the source a Compound Clip to retain the cropping you desire.

On using Keyframes for more complex moves, I almost never see any mention of this: when you keyframe Scale and Position simultaneously you get odd curving motion paths rather than straight movement like you get in Ken Burns, Smooth Move, and (I assume) Motion. These drive me crazy and I have to go into the bezier handles and adjust every single one. However, for me, at least the adjusting of the paths seems easier in FCPX than it was in FCP7.
And, for the original poster, there is this:
www.fcp.co/forum/text-titles/12685-free-fpx-effect-zpr-title
This might do what you need. It allows zooming in on an area, panning to another area, then optionally zooming back out to full screen. I wish it offered more than two areas for Holds and more granular control of Speed, Easing, and Hold times though. I'd gladly pay for a product that took this concept further, like this one used to do:
In FCP7 I used Lyric Pan Zoom Pro. It allowed multiple moves and holds on the same source, and had smooth motion paths and adjustable easing and hold time for each "stop." It has not been updated for FCPX and emails go unanswered.

Maybe some developer could consider a product like this, rather than more color correctors or light leak transitions

Thanks for these links:) Actually the ZPR could prove very useful too. I'm doing a lot of diagram zooming for teaching videos. Yes, being able to add extra pause points would be nice, but no complaints for a freeby!
