By the way I really recommend "Backups for Final Cut Pro X"
Totally worth the money, and it's much clearer and faster to use than the FCPX backups.

Yes, of course.
I guess I'm not making myself clear. All my media is on external hard drives. The issue I'm seeing is in my backups of the library (which are in my Final Cut Backups>Movies>HDD. On average, a typical library backup is somewhere between 150-350 mb. Fine. No problem.
Except that FCPX creates MULTIPLE backups of each individual library as I work on it. So you can image if there are 30 backups (of the same library) that's 3 gigs. A 20 library that's 60GB--just of backups.
I just threw out 75 gigs of redundant multiple backups the other day (taking care to preserve the two most recent).
I was under the impression that FCPX create only a single backup file per library (which then gets updated). Is this not the case? Otherwise, over time, everyone would run out of storage space for their backups.

AFAIK there is no way to limit the number of backups, so currently you'd have to more or less manually deal with the excedentary backups. Not very convenient, I agree, but you can easily trash all but a few recent backups.
I suppose that you could make a feature request to set a preference like: keep only n most recent backups for each library.
The way it is now, it also would not be too hard to craft a little Automator action or AppleScript to prune the backups folder, so that, say, it only keeps up to ten backups of each library, trashing older ones.

Multiple backups allow you to go back to an earlier library state, perhaps days earlier. Updating a single backup only allows reverting to the last saved state.
