I should mention that my shop is an branding and advertising agency, so we do our best to standardize our workflow regardless of job type. We are constantly working on our workflow to be as efficient as foolproof as possible.
We have a centralized job workflow software, a centralized "client work folder" (Mac Mini server) and now a centralized "video client work folder" (iMac with thunderbolt RAID). In short nobody stores anything on their local client machine (technically I do because the RAID is connected to my iMac, but now with this NAS, everyone can see my RAID). Pre FCPX days, video projects were so complicated that only I could get them working or attempt to archive them (mainly because we didn't have centralized video storage). Now however, I have an assistant editor as well as another creative director who can open up any FCPX Job and work on whatever as needed.
If we were dedicated to video then we would have a much more robust NFS or XSAN, but for now where we are this NAS is a great solution to keep our Libraries managed and still sharable.

What an awesome tread! Very informative. I will be setting up a Mac Pro server soon, so wish me luck. Has anyone seen a full tutorial on this yet?
Thanks fcp.co, I always enjoy this forum. Positive and helpful, every time.

we did a step-by-step guide to setup NFS with Bresink as some options are not so obvious.
