Just acquired an Odyssey 7Q+ for my FS700. At this moment even 4K ProRes LT files are prohibitively large, so can't see myself shooting rawanytime very soon. But it would be nice to have the option to use it natively in FCPX if that should happen.

Also, as recorders such as the 7Q and (soon?) the Atomos Shogun shoot Cinema DNG there will be more and more footage in that format shot on other cameras than Black Magic cameras. If Apple practically force every user of Cinema DNG to learn Davinci Resolve, there's also the possibility that that user switch from FCPX to Reselve, especially as Resolve becomes more and more competent as an editing suite with each new version... So it would make sense to APple to support the format natively in FCPX...

Don't honk Apple will purchase any type of license from Adobe. Ether Blackmagicdesign will make a plugin like Red does or we just won't see no native support.

Apple seeing DaVinci as a third party plugin is not Apple like and wouldn't make sense for there customer target.
Is DNG from the Blackmagic camera natively viewable within the Finder?
Also hardware going DNG won't show the trend of users going to DaVinci but more to Adobe Premiere. By the way DaVinci is no where close to other NLE, tool wise and user friendliness.

BMD DNG shows up as a series of stills (image sequence) natively, in FCPX, not as a video clip, likewise in the Finder. There is no BMD DNG codec in OS X. Just like Red, it would have to be supplied by the camera manufacturer.

It is very Apple like, actually. The FCPX product manager has stated that FCPX uses the DSLR model. They make the core body of the product (camera body), and the major bells and whistles you purchase from third parties (lenses, tripods, lights, filters, monitors, etc).

I've had a BMD rep tell me the Resolve GUI designer is a huge FCPX fan, which is why it looks a lot like FCPX. I guess their codec engineers don't have the same penchant for FCPX.

No, Resolve is not as full featured as other NLEs, but it is growing in that directly very quickly and will be soon. I predict this time next year many folks will be using Resolve as the core of their post workflow, as it will be pretty full featured.

I can't help but think there's some frustration waiting for camera manufacturer support. It took Sony some time (many months and a firmware update in the Sony X70's case) for XAVC-L to work reliably in FCPX . cDNG is now been in use for several years.

I don't think Blackmagic has the motive since their lack of support in FCPX may well encourage people to move to Resolve.

That support for FCPX is for some manufactures, a low priority (but not others like RED) may be a hinderance that outweighs its speed for a portion of the market.
