Will FCPX ever have support for a CinemaDNG workflow as it does with the REDCODE workflow?

Natively importing .dng files and adjusting metadata in a customized HUD, etc.

Thank you.

Just FYI, it is a plugin architecture, allowing camera makers to develop native codec support themselves. This allows for codecs to be kept up to date more quickly. I'm very sure BlackMagic Design is working with Apple on native support. I'm actually finding a ProRes workflow from camera to FCPX very easy and pleasant. But native RAW support would be nice.

Thanks guys. I am actually using the BMCC and BMPCC and the ProRes workflow is the easiest workflow I've ever had. However, I recently started shooting RAW and I just don't have the time to learn Resolve right now, although I am slowly looking at it. I hope BM develops the FCPX plugin(s), but being that Resolve is such a powerful and industry standard software, I don't know if they ever would..

I'd be astounded if we don't see some kind of Blackmagic RAW workflow. The two companies seem pretty tight.

Agreed. I would expect an announcement from Blackmagic within 24 hours of release of FCPX 10.1.

On a side note, is FCPX 10.1 coming out this month?

I'd say take the time to learn Resolve. The version 10 makes it really easy to learn and use. As soon as I get a faster SD card it, we'll be experimenting with RAW, comparing it to a native ProRes HQ workflow with the BMPCC.

But Tuesday is TWO days away...

I definitely will...how's 10 different from 9?

*EDIT* I just spent a few hours working in 10 and I'm not sure if 9 was like this, but this software is amazing!

Resolve 10 is WWWAAAYYY easier and better laid out than version 9.

Just on a side, quick note: Does anyone know how to adjust one color in Resolve. Like alter the hue or saturation of just the greens, for example? Thank you.

After Library management, DNG support might be my next biggest personal feature that I'm looking for in 10.1. I'm aiming to get a BMCC this spring for some upcoming documentary projects

To adjust one color create a new node. Select the qualifier (eyedropper) tool and fine tune to pick your color. That will mask out all other colors. Adjust as desired. Sometimes you have to combine an HSV qualifier with a window to narrow the color selection to a particular part of the image.

Depending upon the clip it can be quite easy or quite hard... but I'm an amateur.

Any update on this subject? It would be a shame if you can't use DNG natively in FCPX but RED works.

Two years ago, no one really knew how powerful Resolve would be today and the direction BM would be moving in. It definitely looks like Apple will never implement a DNG native workflow into FCP X. REDCODE makes more sense.

I believe in 2014 Apple was still attending the Blackmagic road show.
At the 2015 road show they said they would be no other third parties (I was helping setup their Telestream Wirecast demo in NYC) since Apple (and Adobe) now viewed them as a competitor.

I think the best we can hope for is that Blackmagic licenses ProRes XQ (which is 12 bit rather than 10 bit for the rest of the ProRes variants) for more of their cameras going forward.

We use the Production 4K and Pocket Cinema cameras, and always shoot QT, and love it. We've no use for DNG, really. But you can convert it to QT in Resolve super easily. I think the FCPX team views Resolve, in part, as a third party DNG conversion app. So why bother?

On the other hand, a future release could incorporate it. You never know.

Shooting PR is nice, but you get the most out of the sensor shooting RAW.
