I agree on the most part with what you're saying. I too work in Europe, the UK specifically, and in my circle
Of Editors, clients and collaborating artists, I'm yet to hear of a single case of someone switching to FCPX, perhaps that's just the UK though? A very small corner of the world after all
I too reside in the UK and you must know, either a very small circle of editors, or, are definitely overdue a psychiatric checkup... good luck! :woohoo:

We essentially agree, all is well. I would take a more polished, better designed prefs pane over FCP 7's current one in a heart beat! Perhaps a mid-ground between FCPX's pref pane and FCP7's would be spot on?
I love Apple's products, I'll continue to buy Macs and iPhones for the foreseeable, I think they know how to create an amazing user experience. This however, doesn't mean that the vast amount of choice should be withdrawn from the users hands, that's my point.
I don't want to make FCPX into something it's not, I want to adjust the UI to suit the task in hand. This isn't odd, this what millions of people have done for years with every pro app on the market.
Still, I found this interesting article, looking at the new release of Logic Pro X, bringing in line with FCPX, and analysing what this update to Logic Pro could mean for the future of FCPX. It's a good read, and highlights various points from both sides of this thread

We have a ProRes/DPX workflow at my place currently so I've not come to try it out there. But at home, I shoot on a DSLR and try to keep file sizes down. FCPX eats these h264s for breakfast!
I love that
Also, whilst I'm still not a fan of the colour board approach over the 3 way wheels, I do LOVE the ease of the picker built right into the colour panel. That's ingenious, and something I'd only expect to find in a dedicated grading app like DaVinci, and in that case, it'd be more of a head ache to implement.
Love that also

'All this gushing'? Not sure I follow, I chipped in that I'm a big fan of FCPX's colour picker built into the colour board, it makes secondary corrections quick, I like that. And the h264 workflow is great, that's something that's useful to me personally outside of our studio pipeline. So, as I'd spent the majority of the thread venting my frustration over various issues in FCPX, I thought it would be nice to chip in my positive feedback for the very same app.
I'm a professional editor/compositor, using professional software, designed for very specific tasks, it's perfectly normal to enjoy discussing the ups and downs of our tools amongst artists and editors. No software is perfect, Nuke, FCP 7/X, Avid MC, Premiere, AE, Photoshop; they all excel in various areas, and will also constantly need improvements in certain areas. If this were not the case, we'd all use the same single piece of software that accomplished all tasks perfectly. No version upgrades or added feature sets, nothing. But that's not the case, thank god, so here we are, discussing our personal experiences with FCPX (in this case).
While we're here, please feel free to share your experiences with FCPX. Love it? Hate it? Not sure yet? Still learning?
Kind regards

I think the FCPX "philosophy" is geared towards contextual settings. For example, gone is the plethora of timeline settings that existed in FCP7. Instead it uses settings based on the first file by default (which was a response pop up in FCP7) yet FCPX allows you to change sequence settings (although the options are more limited that many of us would want).
For example, one change I would like to see and may be made possible with new MacPro 2 GPUs, is the ability to open multiple scopes under both viewers. That would help with grading. Such a default might simply be a remembered setting when using the scopes rather than something that would need be set in preferences.

The scopes feature would be welcomed by all I'm sure, and I'd be surprised if this doesn't happen in the coming update. Reading the article I posted earlier "What Logic Pro X tells us about the future of Final Cut Pro X", fills me with confidence. Especially when seeing Apple's decision to retain conventional organisation routes in Logic Pro X, this would help big facilities, and even small houses like mine with just a handful of editors. There are many things in that article that, if continued through to the coming FCPX 10.1 update, would undoubtably help bring FCPX into many more existing pipelines.
I'm excited for what's coming

Getting back to your original post topic- 10.1.
Other thank alex4D's excellent speculative article about any hints as to 10.1 that we might find in LogicX, there's very little information to be had.
We do know that a version of FCPX will be released in conjunction with the new MacPro, which we also don't know the release date for yet.
The MacPro literature hints that true background rendering may be coming to FCPX, perhaps only with specific machines that can handle it (like the dual-GPU MacPro)
With Apple's iPhone event now set for September 10th- it's relatively easy to foresee a second Event late in October (like last year) for the release of OSX 10.9 Mavericks, New Macs (including the Pro), and presumably the next FCPX update.
FCPX hasn't had a "feature" update since last October, so the presumption is that something big is indeed coming.
No one (who can say anything about it) knows where Apple has spent the last year of development time, but the large areas of interest that people continue to talk about are COLLABORATIVE/MULTI-EDITOR WORKFLOWS, AUDIO MIXING, PROJECT TIMELINE ORGANIZATION, expansion of FCPXML, and BETTER INTER-APP COMMUNICATION with programs like Motion, Logic, etc.
It's up in the air whether 10.1 would be a paid update or not. I've heard good arguments from smart, knowledgeable people on both sides. I personally wouldn't mind either way.
And that's really all the news that's fit to print at the moment.
We usually keep a consolidated "PRE RELEASE" thread for each upcoming release, consolidating any rumours/news articles. The new one hasn't been started yet, cause by the time we're finished with the last one- we're usually pretty burned out- especially since the last two updates ran so long.
My best guess is we'll see 10.1 late in October. But as to what changes or improvements they've made, it's anybody's guess.

We do know that …
Just to take into considerations, from a very different front-line:
iMovie, which was the test-balloon demoing the new concept Projects/Events, skimming et al of then forthcoming FCPX about 6y ago, wasn't updated for almost 4 years.
It lacks support of AVCHD v2, for example the ever growing GoPros are not supported (=beyond 1080/30p, skaters want slowmo!); it lacks for hobbyists popular features, FCPX has, such as censoring faces/number-plates, key-framing pic-in-pic (=creating Ufos…) or tracking objects (to apply … things). It lacks support of plug-ins/add-ons/templates (=imagine hysteria, iMovie would offer 3rd party wedding themes! baby shower themes, soccer league themes, memorial themes, … )
Lately in October (= Xmas shopping), some iMovie14 should appear - and this should be some very fundamental improved version.
Rumors has it, Randy Ubilios' team is very small; …
=> I wouldn't be surprised, the MacPro gets just a FCPX.091 update
(three digit version numbers - yeah!) :woohoo:
.... just my 5¢ from the hobbyist's corner …
(creeping under my stone)

So there is this old psychiatrist and he is training a young psychiatrist! The young psychiatrist finally gets to have his own clients. He steadily makes progress and all goes well. But one day the young psychiatrist comes running to the old psychiatrist in a state of panic. He is a cold sweat and says “I am in deep shit I think I drove one of my Clients mad.” The old psychiatrist looks at the young psychiatrist, smiles and laughs long and hard. Finally the old psychiatrist says “You are not that good”

I like everything you mentioned in you 'most talked about' features list, if it all comes to fruition, I'll be bouncing off the ceiling!! I'd personally much rather a big, paid update, 3 years down the line, that makes a huge difference in stability, performance and feature set/collaborative workflows. 3 years is a long time to be rolling out free 0.X updates, I think this is the time to introduce the latest revised version, with big enough changes to warrant a paid upgrade. But that's just me.
Again, it's all speculation, of course, but it's fun regardless

1. Based on the just released Logic Pro X, could we see the price of FCPX drop to $199 from $299.
2. Based on some OS 10.9 level technologies, could 10.1 REQUIRE Mavericks?
Based on my own use, I'd also love to see some more depth to the Color Correction tools in FCPX. The additive primary, secondaries (with either shape or color sampled qualifiers) is not unlike DaVinci Resolve. But some added tools like Levels, Curves, and a more traditional 3-way color corrector would be welcome. And while something as advanced as Resolved tracker is not very likely; a version of Motion's single point tracker for masks would be VERY useful.

1) Logic Pro 9 was reduced to $199 when it became available in the App Store, that price didn't change when Logic Pro X was released, still same price. Final Cut Pro was never available on the App Store and FCPX was priced at $299 when released as a Mac App Store only app. I think it will remain at $299.
2) I think it could require 10.8.4 just like Logic at least. But who knows. All Macs that can run Mountain Lion can run Mavericks so it doesn't really matter. Folks with old Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1s are probably not gonna be too happy though.
