hi there,

thanks for offer of help.
Fortunately, some kind soul from Apple has been in contact with me ('Noah'), and I have sent offending event files to him for assessment.
Trouble is now what actually caused the corruption: a complete a repeated shutdown of my computer using fcp, which has become so frequent now, I can no longer work on anything.
It shuts down my computer at the slightest render.
I have uninstalled, reinstalled everything, trashed all prefs, taken out third parties, updated everything, emptied all events all projects, started with a completely new, clean machine, new software installation, ran hardware tests... still on slightest work in fcpx, crashes my computer...
any suggestions welcome.

Hopefully they can work out the database corruption. As to crashes... no idea. Have you tried a completely different computer? I cut in X all day every day and it's solid as a rock...

Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

Well there's no harm in giving us the files too.

I had X fall over on me recently. Upon restarting it wouldn't open the project. I went through a series of restarts, messing around and eventually had to resort to the backup project, so I lost a little bit of work.

Personally my long term backup setup is totally manual and quite detached from my edit machine.

I manually manage projects and events once I've finished with them and copy them onto pairs of USB hard drives. I put the data in folders which aren't parent on the external hard drives so FCPX can't see them and won't mess with the databases.

I copy everything including my camera media onto pairs of drives and I use the finder to do it. Then I do a CRC check on the copies. It all takes ages of course but so far it's worked out.

Just to clarify, since it appears we got off on the wrong foot, I wasn't implying in any way that you were "amateur" but rather merely covering the bases. The external drive issue is something we get here continually & since you hadn't fully detailed your workflow in the original post, it was necessary to establish. Sounds like the best current course of action is to share the files here with someone who can help you. I'm certainly not experienced in that specific area, thus have no qualms about being referred to as an amateur in the particular field of data recovery.

Hoping you get it all worked out...

thanks for clarification...
Trouble is, at the very height of profound angst, it is hard for one to read what one SHOULD have done with hindsight...

Though, with hindsight... it seems i did all good!
(even kept backup on other discs), but the trouble - and this is why maybe I will now conclude this specific post - is now becoming clearer: it seems as though I have a corrupt ...macbook.
The machine is erratic, and now, for the first time, is causing chaos OUTSIDE of fcpx.
Meaning my machine might have a terminal case.
It would be pointless pursuing this based on a machine (just one year old) that is dying.
I will borrow money tomorrow and buy a new machine.
I will try the files on the new machine. Though it is unlikely that they become 'un' corrupt, at least it will be with a firmer basis.
Then, at that point, I would be delighted if someone could have a look at my event file, see if they can save it somehow.
