Hello tpayton,
What I meant by "Even longer clips are converted to original (h264) format" is that if I drag and drop the camera clips (NOT from the cardreader or from the camera, I always backup the entire card on an external HDD via FW800), the clips are converted to h264 format. It is not Proxy nor ProRes.
I did the Lynda.com training. I'm new to FCPX after several years on 7. Still fighting everyday to solve all my doubts.
BTW, after import and syncing, I would like to keep all my interviews synced material on several "sequences". Do you recommend using projects for each interview? Or use Compound clips?
Thank you all for the help.

Not sure what you mean by "converted to," the camera shoots H.264. That's its native codec.

You're right, Tom.
Again, what I meant is that the files are copied to its native codec. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
