In and Out points move

All good suggestions, but just one remark: even when you are not zoomed in your in-points certainly shouldn't jump to another frame when you place an out-point. I have never seen this happening. There must be something else going on.

Yeah, this is all precision keyboard stuff, no use of the mouse. The zoom in thing makes no sense to me either, but I'll take what I can get.

I gave this a try and found that the in point does move one frame forward. This is using the playhead position to mark an out-point after having set the in-point with the playhead. It happens pretty consistently for me. It does not happen when using the skimmer, however. If I mark the in-point at the playhead position and use the skimmer to mark the out-point, the in-point would not move. If I use the skimmer for both the in-point does not move. The in-point only moves when I set an in-point at the playhead position and then the out-point at the playhead position (further down the timeline of course).

anickt,

What is the format of your footage? Are you working with native or optimized media?

Ronny

It is pretty standard Panasonic DVCProHD 1080i/60i in a 1080i project.

Interesting though....I just tried making a new project and copying some of the footage from the offending project into it. Now, in the new project, the in-point doesn't move no matter what I do. Same footage in the same format project. That is strange!

Just to be clear, the problem I've been experiencing doesn't seem to be limited to the in-point moving one frame, but I am exclusively using the playhead with the skimmer turned off.

I am seeing the same thing again. I just tried it with one clip on the timeline in a new project and the in-point did not move no matter what. However, when I added a second clip it was back to the in-point moving one frame when marking in and then an out using the playhead....

I haven't seen this behaviour either. Ever.

But I had a thought: Could it be that it happens because the in is in a subframe position first? It adjusts to a video frame position once you set the out which could look like it is jumping a frame?

I can't reproduce it here but maybe there is something special you're doing?

Very strange one!

If I mark an in at the playhead position at 1:00 and then move the playhead any distance down the timeline and mark an out, I can see the in-point move and when I hit shift-I the timecode in the dashboard will be 1:01.

However.....

I tried it again this morning and found that it only happens when Snapping is turned on. If I turn Snapping off then the in-point does not move. So my guess it is a bug related to snapping.

Nice catch! Now I think we are getting somewhere. I will do some tests later this day. This could indeed be a bug.

The snapping theory makes a lot of sense!

I do sometimes experience this behavior when trying to add keyframes. Let's say I am editing in the project timeline and have a trimmed clip. I then want to put a certain keyframe on the first visible frame. So ai park my playhead there and hit the keyframe-button in the inspector. Oops! The keyframe is set two or three frames further towards the beginning of the original clip, out of bounds of the clip visible in the project timeline. Strange! It does not happen all the time but confuses me every now and then. Normally a restart helps. Trashing prefs has no effect.

Ideas anyone?

You can create the keyframe at any position on the clip and then drag it to where you want it. I find this easier than trying to put it directly on the beginning or end frame.

Thanks, Anickt. I knew that already, though. And it still remains a bug. I personally prefer to use the keyboard to jump to the edit point and then just strike the keyframe button. And I'd like to know how to avoid that bug if anyone has an idea? Thanks again!
