I used Final Cut Pro for like I dunno maybe ten years off and on and I just had to get the new trial version to match the expectations of my OsX 10.8. I just HATE everything about the new design and I feel like they made a lot of changes meant to control and limit my freedom and creativity, and they just made everything more difficult. It's cheaper now, but it seems like a mix of Imovie and FCP, they make it easy for you to do what is expected of you, not anything else. Specifically, issues I am having are that I can't easily import audio for a project, I'm limited in what programs I can use, Itunes seems to be promoted by my program, I can't seem to just drag in an audio file, I hate the new export design, where it wants you to connect up with You Tube or Facebook, with your actual name attached! WTF?? Convenience at the price of loss of privacy seems to be a major trend now and reflect corporate interests controlling every little aspect of our work. Does anyone else feel this way?
If you want to bash, go to creative cow. Over there there is a whole community of bashers. A lot of people will agree with you.
If you want to get help, ask here in this forum. Once you learn how to do things with FCPX you might actually like it. Most of the people here in this forum like FCPX and use it by choice.
And no it does not limit your freedom or creativity. These are limited by no one else but you. It is just a tool. It might work differently to what you are used to, but this does not make it better or worse.
If you don´t like it, use something else. Very good alternatives out there!
Funny how almost none of the FCPX-likers are inclined to bashing other NLEs.
Why you say that Creative Cow has a good balance of users. The difference is that the comments can be backed up.

I, for one, think it's a great product. I was fortunate/unfortunate (however you may see it) to have seen the changes from 10.0.0 to the current version and think it's been a great journey. Yes, it takes time to learn like any other NLE but that's just any form of software if you ask me.
Your issues concerning audio import and social media uploading seem both trivial and un-researched. I've never had any audio issues and I've never had any problems with uploading to YouTube (do people actually upload to Facebook?).
In no way do I want to hate on you for anything, but when you claim you're an artist, and not someone who works for someone, you make it seem like you don't fully understand the various tasks that video editors need to perform. Your claim seems rather close-minded as you pose the question "why are you so invested in it?". Well the reason is that there's a huge community of FCPX users just like the one here on FCP.co that take the time to learn their software, troubleshoot their problems and still manage to call themselves artists.

In other words allot of the critic about FCPX is just not pulled out of the @$$. It can be backed up as why it will or won't work. Example... Mentioning it can be done FCPX and Motion us not going to cut it. 95% it will be explained on Creative Cow. "Can be backed up"knurrrrrrt wrote:

Ich vermute 'mal, gemeint ist
'backed up' = 'kann belegt werden'
… jedenfalls schließe ich das so aus dem Kontext ..... :silly:

I empathize with you, Redding, we're all creatures of habit, & alas, it's the bad habits that are hardest to break. Hate is a powerful word & emotion you chose to describe your inner turmoil while in this program. Perhaps you've chosen the most difficult place to create from.
Each & every one of us had to begin anew with FCPX, an experience that's daunting to some, but Apple has made it easier than any of the competitors.
Now as increasing numbers of professional filmmakers are joining the legions worldwide for larger & more spectacular projects, we all see one thing clearly; this is the future of filmmaking.
Before I sign off, please take a moment to ponder a deeper concept. Why would so many lifelong industry professionals be switching to FCPX? Sure, not all of them, but the number's not important yet, why would even one switch? Then, after they learn this new method, why are they so willing to defend it boldly as you've seen here? What kind of a change has transpired within them?
Perhaps a fresh new start could do you good? You might have to let go of your bias & hate (as you describe it). If you're at least ready to give that a try, we'll encourage you with all sorts of easy to follow tutorials & videos that'll open up an entirely new world of amazing possibilities. This marvel can bring about many positive changes in workflow, productivity, creativity, professionalism & artistic expression.
And... hehe... maybe even a change of heart & mind.
How would you feel about that?
