I hate this new FCP...why?

I used Final Cut Pro for like I dunno maybe ten years off and on and I just had to get the new trial version to match the expectations of my OsX 10.8. I just HATE everything about the new design and I feel like they made a lot of changes meant to control and limit my freedom and creativity, and they just made everything more difficult. It's cheaper now, but it seems like a mix of Imovie and FCP, they make it easy for you to do what is expected of you, not anything else. Specifically, issues I am having are that I can't easily import audio for a project, I'm limited in what programs I can use, Itunes seems to be promoted by my program, I can't seem to just drag in an audio file, I hate the new export design, where it wants you to connect up with You Tube or Facebook, with your actual name attached! WTF?? Convenience at the price of loss of privacy seems to be a major trend now and reflect corporate interests controlling every little aspect of our work. Does anyone else feel this way?

I can import any audio I want without issue. Can you specify what you're trying to import that won't? Because your statement defies what I'm able to do. An audio file is an audio file. Does the Audio Browser only work with Apple apps? Of course it does, because their apps use their own "Core Data" database engine. What other audio app has a library you want to import from? It also points to loops and samples loaded into the OS as Audio Units. Can you be very specific how you'd like the Audio Browser to work? And, explain how you can't import audio without using the Audio Browser, please.
How can you export to YouTube or Facebook ANYWHERE without logging in to your account? I do not understand that statement.
Loss of privacy? Where is loss of privacy? You mean the loss of privacy forced on you by YouTube and Facebook, not by FCP X?
I think you're really off base, and bashing for the sake of bashing. Let's talk about facts. No NLE is perfect, use what you want to use. No one is forcing you to use FCP X. Don't like it? Use something else. Why are you here bashing if you don't like it? Just move on with your life to something else.
I do not understand what the specific point of your posting is, besides mindless bashing, with distorted, untrue comments.
Have you done any proper FCP X training?
I also noticed your comment on your profile, bashing this site, also. What are you really here for? Do you work for Adobe? You sound like the Adobe employees I met at NAB two weeks ago.

Probably a lot of people. Mostly those who haven't really used the app... Otherwise.. no. You can drag any audio file you want into X from the finder. You don't have to export to the web from the app. And you can do stuff editorially that just isn't possible in FCP 7. Learn to use X, you might actually like it.
Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

Yes, many people are afraid of change.
"I want to do it on my terms"
You can do that just fine. Export as ProRes, H.264, anything you like. You're not forced to upload directly to Facebook or YouTube. When going to one of these sites, it is, as I said before, those sites that force you to log in to your account before uploading. But that is only one of many ways to export video from FCP X.
"...but never what I want to do."
Well, you came here to bash, not ask a legitimate question. So what is your point?
"Why are you so invested in it?"
Because it is a very flexible, powerful, easy, fast, highly professional application.
www.apple.com/finalcutpro/in-action/
"how to do what someone else wants to do"
Really? That makes no sense. Can you site specifics? What specific training have you done? Ripple Trining, macProVideo, Larry Jordan?
Again, I am under the impression you work for Adobe and are here just trolling. That is simply my opinion at this point in time based on your post here, and accusing this site of being too social media oriented. Not pretty comments. What I am reading is the equivalent of "Why do I have to use a can opener to get the food out of this can?" I'm hoping you're just venting frustration, will calm down, and ask what you want to know.
I promise, if you ask specific legitimate questions, in a polite, respectful way, we will gladly and respectfully answer them in depth.
In the meantime, do a training from Ripple Training or macProVideo , the two very best education around. You'll see how the app works, is flexible, powerful, and lets you be creative very easily and fast, in your own way.
Until I see a legitimate question and some good manners, I'll quietly leave this thread. Have a good day!

I'm sure I will have more specific questions as I continue my 30 day trial of this product.

Ben isn't just a 'poster' here, or an average user, he teaches FinalCut, for 10+ years. He gives valuable, profound help (for free!) on this board.
Ask a question "how to do 'tis&tat", and you get excellent, helpful replies.
To flood a FCPX-centric, user2user board with 'hate' is simply useless. A board doesn't offer anger-management-therapy …
When FCPX lil' brother, iM08 came out 5y ago, introducing the new paradigms, I was a 'hater' too: no timeline. no tracks, no … nothing! There are other boards, with a off-topic section, offering a place for relief.
But, after that, open minded (didn't you mention art/creativity?), with professional advice, you'll soon notice the incredible advantages of that new approach.
There are books, tutorials, podcasts, personal trainers - depending on budget and preferred learning behavior (e.g. Ben
If not: Premiere (the Big One, or its small-budget version P/elements) . Or, use your old version of FC/p.
… hate is no good start to learn something new .........

When I need to import audio, I hit command I and import anything I want.
This is not the place to blindly bash a program because we all know how to use it. If you're concerned about privacy, then you probably shouldn't be using YouTube at all... or Google when you're signed into your account, or the Internet at all.
FCPX is not new, it's been out for almost two years.

If you want to bash, go to creative cow. Over there there is a whole community of bashers. A lot of people will agree with you.
If you want to get help, ask here in this forum. Once you learn how to do things with FCPX you might actually like it. Most of the people here in this forum like FCPX and use it by choice.
And no it does not limit your freedom or creativity. These are limited by no one else but you. It is just a tool. It might work differently to what you are used to, but this does not make it better or worse.
If you don´t like it, use something else. Very good alternatives out there!
Funny how almost none of the FCPX-likers are inclined to bashing other NLEs.

Hear hear. Ask for help and you will get it. If you want to complain the COW is for you.
Oh and as to your question. No I don't feel this way at all about FCP X and I've been editing on computer based non linear systems since 1991. There is no lose of privacy, FCP X is just making it convenient for you to go straight to your favorite web service. If you don't want to you don't have to. you can export a Master file and do with it whatever you wish.
I suggest you continue the trial with an open mind. At the end of it if you still hate it go to Premiere Pro as it's nearly caught up to where FCP 7 was about 4 years ago.

I know I don't know how to use this version, and the tutorials online are the only access I will ever have to education.
Yes it is very clear that you don't know how to use this application yet. And in some way I can understand your frustration. I have seen many people looking surprised when they opened FCP10 for the first time. It's only when you start working on it (and I mean really working or learning, not "playing around") that you will realize how powerful it is. I think that's the experience most of us have had.
If you don't have access to training, no sweat. This site has top people ready to help you with any questions. But by saying that you "hate" the application while you haven't even seriously had a look at it you may have started on the wrong foot. Take a deep breath and try again. And if you really want to learn FCP10 and not just bash it, we are here to assist you.

I was flabbergasted myself when I saw X the first time, but the more I work with it, the more I like it, there is no other NLE I know of that makes editing that fast and easy. Creative freedom? I'd say FCP X offers the much due to its pretty simple interface (but a lot of depth). Get some good training - you got some good hints here so far - have a drink, throw away your debunked prejudice and simply start working with it. Even my old old mentor, a die hard FCP6-on-a-quad-G5 (footage exclusively from XL1) fanatic loves it meanwhile.
Karsten, I only understood iMovie 08 after I started working with FCP X :side:
IIRC, iMovie 08 was supposed to be First Cut for ingesting and organizing footage before going to editing. Jobs made it the consumer app it finally became. FCP X is building up on the original idea with adding a powerful NLE to the ingesting/organizing software.
I'm forced to work with Premiere CS6 ATM - a pain in the lower spine. While I think it makes a great FCP 8, it feels so 90s.

iM08 was terrible - my website was piled with 'dirty' tricks to add fundamental features, such as slow-mo. The actual iM11 is excellent for hobbyists, looking forward to iM13 (plugins?)
my story 'bout paradigm change:
one day, I found an eMail by sensei Tom Wolsky … yep, the Tom Wolsky! Asking me, tiny soccer Dad and designated iMovie fan Karsten this&that about iMovie! .... strrrrange????
Then came FCPX - not strange. Riddle solved. Transition from iMovie-b to FCPX? Easy!
For me, iM-b (vers a is in my counting the dv-editor iMovie vers≤6) was a crazy test of Randy and his team; it was banana-ware, but a perfect, 20:1-scaled simulation of the storm which came up with FCPX.0 ....
... haven't used iMovie for more than 2y, happy with FCPX + Motion5 ....

When I want to share a video I want to do it on my terms, and that is NEVER with my real name associated with the video, and FCP seems to enforce that as a policy? Maybe I haven't figured out how to bypass it. I know I don't know how to use this version, and the tutorials online are the only access I will ever have to education. They tend to provide information on how to do what someone else wants to do, probably what most people want to do, but never what I want to do. I am open to learning how to use the program, but I just feel like compared to the old one it is unlikeable. Why are you so invested in it? What is a good alternative? I don't know of any.
It seems you are more upset about the Sharing function then the App itself. YOu could do it like the old FCP way.
Export the project and upload it manually over the website.

You are either 12 years or somewhere around 82 years old. You hate everything new? Wow....stick to Media100.
To your points:
iMovie----true, looks similar, but I HATE iMovie. It does nothing I want, but FCPX does it and much more. Different architecture, different code. iMovie is a free hack-job app, FCPX is a professional tool. It is like combining fingernails to a shovel. Same principle to dig a hole in the ground.
Audio-Import: Huh? You either drag the file from finder into an event or keyword-bin or you usethe Import command and choose the file. There is no app that does it different. Even Word does it this way.
Facebook and youtube: Those are OPTIONS. Nobody forces you to upload or give your name/account. What are you talking about? This part of your post makes me think you are either a child or someone who can´t keep up with modern communication anymore. Do you know you can Upload to vimeo or facebook directly in the finder? It is built into OSX, so if you don´t like it you better get rid of any Mac in your house, and probably any Windows machine as well.
I like this feature, because I can upload (password protected) client preview to them or post right into their youtube-channel with one click!

If FCP7 is what you like, why not stick with it? Or try Premiere. Personally, I miss drinking all that coffee and running errands while the transcoding and rendering took place.
If you want to learn something that lets you cut faster and more creatively (with a huge eco-system of plugins that make your life easier) you could maybe broaden your horizons and try learning to use FCPX.
Like people above have said if you want to learn, here's a good place to be.
