Retiming in Motion 5?
I want to put in text and lights during the 23 seconds. But first I need to retime.
I´ve found retime in Motion, but I obviously don´t know how to use it.
Help me, please
I found the "Timing" in properties Inspector". However, it only allows me to decrease speed with maximum 800%. What kind of crap is that?
In FCPX it´s unlimited.

And 800% is mega-super fast motion, but yes, that is a limit. Slowest speed possible is 0.01%, fastest is 800%.
So this is a task you want to do with FCP for the extremes you're using. Normally for this type of time lapse we do photos with a DSLR and a invalvometer, and shoot one photo every second or few seconds, depending on how long we want the final clip to be. But, since you already have the clip, do it in FCP.

I meant increase.
There´s a clip of some children walking towards the camera. The duration of the walk is not 10 min, but around 7. So my in point starts at 4 min. And from 4 to 11 min I need to clip to speed up leaving the duration 23 seconds.
During this time, a text will grow bigger as it follows the kids from the bottom of the road.
And at the top, the text stops. Next follows some new text, and the hole intro ends being lightened up by crossing lights.
This I can´t do in FCPX, can I?
When I got to bed last night I was thinking I could change the duration in FCPX, save it(well, share it), import the shared and retimed clip(after sharing it´s a mp4) in Motion 5.
I´ll try that now. Hope it works.

Get Clip Exporter to export single clip. clipexporter.mindtransplant.com/
Didn´t know I had other options. Thanks!

If you export in FCP X to go to Motion, use Master File to export, be sure the Settings specify ProRes 422.

BenB wrote: That's pretty basic, I'd do it in FCP X. In a Project trim the clip to the In and Out points you want. Set the retiming as you wish. Place the text on top.

I know how to place the text on top, but not make it follow the kids walking. I also don´t know how to dim the lights, and light the text(which now has stopped) with other colors.
I shared the clip with Apple Device. Made an .mp4(that was before cgbier told me otherwise), and than made a generator which I then exported to FCP X. It worked just fine.
Whats the difference between the way I did and the way you are describing?

You could achieve this in either Motion of FCP X, it is pretty simple. Keyframe the text in FCP X to grow and follow the talent. Not sure how much text you're doing, how else it changes. But it can be done either way.
Are you using any Motion Tracking when you take that clip into Motion?
Not sure what you mean by "dim the lights". And do you need to specifically need colored lights on white text, or just change the color of the text? That can be keyframed, too in either app. Here's a neat lighting trick that may help.

I used key framing to move my text.
I´m using the light-effect in Motion. At the end of the intro it gets darker, and I have some moving lights to cross over my text, creating light effect.

Retime the clip in FCP X, Share > Master File > ProRes 422. Take that into Motion and do the text and light effects.

Yep, but already done. However I shared with Apple Device. But I´m doing it your way now just to compare. I need to learn, so I´m trying motion tracking as well.

Not sure motion tracking will help you at all. Only if the text follows the talent in some way exactly, and then it may not work if the talent is bouncing around too much. Depends on what you want to do, exactly.
But you seem on the right track, just missing some details. Can you post a clip of what you have done so far?

So, I choose Master file and then choose "Computer" to make sure the film can be played on a computer also.
It worked fine with key framing. I´m trying motion tracking, just to see how it works.
I can see what I can do with posting the intro. It´s with kids, so I need to adjust both text and picture. Maybe make kids blurry.

"ProRes 422" for export to Motion. Not Apple Devices, not Computer. Format should be set to Video Only. Video Codec should be set to ProRes 422.
Setting to computer gives you the mega-compressed H.264, which looses quality with every transcode you do.
But if you have some real need to export H.264 to send to Motion, you're free to do that. I'm just not sure why you're doing that, though.

No, I don´t insist losing image quality. I´m just not technical enough to understand everything.
I now understand what format it should be in when export to Motion.
The reason why I need to set to computer is because I´m giving my project to the kids parents, and many of them doesn´t have Mac.
On the other hand, I can tell them to play it on Quick Time(when giving them a ProRes 422.
Some of the parents are way less technical then me, I just wanted to make it easy for them by giving them a movie which is playable on most media player.

If you have to move stuff around between apps or computers, you use ProRes or an XML file like with Clip Exporter.

This is the first intro I made:
And this is the intro from this tread:
I´m removing the last one after you have seen it.

Motion tracking in Motion would make it look much better than simply keyframing. You have some good, contrasty points you can anchor your tracking on.
Doesn't look to bad what you did there. A bit color correction, and you are good to go.

According to imdb, it´s spelled with e: www.imdb.com/title/tt0452681/
I don´t really know. I see the name with both e and without.
I tried motion tracking, and it wasn´t so bad. But I wasn´t to satisfied. I might try some more. Deadline isn´t for anther 3,5 months.
Where do you suggest color correction?

You're not exporting for them to look at, you're exporting to work in Motion. When you're done, you can bring it back to FCP X, sync up the sound (Motion has major audio bugs), then export to Computer.
As for motion tracking, I'd be concerned that people walking don't give you a real stable tracking point. Good contrast, yes, but hands and arms moving, the natural bounce of walking, etc. That's my only concern about motion tracking.
I'd so the raw effects in Motion, with text. Then turn off the Text layer, take that ProRes 422 export into FCP X. Then turn off the video and only leave the text, export that as ProRes 4444, make sure export options say Colors + Alpha (turn on premultiply). Bring that into FCP X to place on top of the video. Then you can color correct the video without effecting the text.
