How well does AF run on Mac OS X?

AE ~1.500$

No.
I said: avoid 'electronics' when a simple piece of string can do the same effect.

I said: why removing something (rotoscoping, 'stamping', cloning) if you can make it vanish 'automatically' with a simple tripod and a colour-key?

I said: colour-key is part of iMovie, FCPX and Motion5 - you have to have some tool to create a green-screen effect.

.... keep things simple - Adobe Creative Suite 6 or CGI-generated-pancakes for a kiddie-home-movie .... really ???

Buy a $2 green felt marker, use it to color the string, key it as in that clip Karsten posted here, done.

My english is not perfect, so I might have understood your post.

I´m new at this, editing, filming, techniques, programs, CGI and you name it.
I want to learn, I want to know how I can, how others are creating their product. That doesn´t necessarily means I can do it, or going to buy products the pros are using. I just want to know my options.

On the other hand, I´m really, really satisfied with all the answers, quick answers I´m getting. I appreciate you telling me how to do it even if it clearly is beyond med technical knowhow. You could have easily told me just to forget it, it´s to expensive and takes years to learn. But you didn´t and I´m happy for that!

So thanks to all of you!
I can be a pain in the ass with all the questions. Just like a child.

And BenB, I now have a lot of options, and If I remember correctly we have some green yarn at work.

Thanks again!

I didn't mean to buy AE. For this one project you just could have downloaded the trial version.

AE runs pretty well on a Mac with enough RAM and a solid GPU. I mainly got it for the Rotobrush and its 3D tracking (and I wasn't sure about the FCP X development - Premiere CS6 is what FCP8 could have been). Otherwise, I prefer Motion - does about the same and is easier to grasp.

AE does that stuff because of Mocha, which is also available for Motion comparability, and is really nice if you want to get that in depth with things.

Yes, but Mocha "Lite" is built into AE, while the version for Motion is some 1500 bucks if you really need it. The new 3D tracker in AE makes Mocha mostly obsolete (and is easier to use - a novelty for Adobe).
