Free FCPX Title Effect - TKY Text on a Curve

A title effect for creating text that follows a path for some elegant and unusual animations.

File Attachment:

File Name: TKYTextonaCurve.zip
File Size:28 KB

You have three onscreen controls for defining the centre point of the curve as well as its two ends which give you a lot of control for the path shape and positioning.

You can animate the text so that it moves along the path using the path offset control. You can also reveal the text from either end using either the start or end sliders - or both.

You can choose whether or not the text aligns itself to the path or the characters stay vertical by using the align to path on/off toggle.

You can choose to show the path itself as well as adjusting its colour and its width.

To install, unzip and place the entire folder in your User/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles folder.

Which ones did you mean? The ones that swing down or the ones that wipe on immediately after?

Both are very easy to to in Motion (or After Effects obviously).

Um, yeah, I've often found the best way to get help with something is to insult the person who needs to help me.

As for the "unfolding" text mentioned in that video, I have a tutorial about how to do that. You simply make the panels invisible. I've noticed it is an effect being picked up more and more. This article also includes the actual Motion 5 project you can download and tweak.

Hey thug93,

Seems to be working for me. You may run into the odd issue when using effects made in versions of Motion other than the current one.

To answer your question, you need to keyframe the parameters.

Add a keyframe for path offset of -100% at the start of the title and 100% at the end and the text should move.

Here's a very short video that shows you how to do it:

All you need to do is keyframe the path offset to get the text to move along the path.

You could also have fun with keyframing the Start and/or End sliders to get the text to dynamically wipe on or off.

So in short, the answer is - keyframing. If that's not a technique you're familiar with it's well worth reading up about it.
