Hi All,

OK, so it's crunch time. I need a new laptop to do the odd simple cut-cut edit. However, I simply don't have the budget to splash out on a brand new Macbook.

So, keeping your answers as non-technical as possible (with as little 'you should know this basic stuff already' as well), will FCP7 run just as effiecently on one of the new Airs? Can I still use an external drive as the scratch disk, save myself a grand and yet still produce simple little edits on on the road?

Technically, yes. What your performance will be will depend on the external drive you get, and how much RAM you get. USB 3.0 minimum, if not Thuderbolt external.

The real issue is, if it is a new model, it will have OS X 10.9.3 on it. Not sure if the installer will run. But using Migration Assistant should work OK, if not.

Why not just move to FCPX if you're getting a new laptop, anyway?
