a well known beginners problem is discribed:
apply a shape generatot (here:a circle), resize it via the video tab, and while moving the shape it gets chopped off!

... because, you not onl shrink the circle, but its hosting frame (follow link above for an illustration) ...

workaround:
use attached modified Shapes Generator
It offerrs a SIZE slider WITHOUT affecting the frame ....

Hi Karsten! Thank you so much for making this! Beginner question: how do I load this file into final cut--i need that slider lol! I tried simply opening it but nothing happened. Also tried dropping it into the effects folder and generator folders on my hard drive.. I don't know if it makes a difference but the file "Shapes and Sizes" that i downloaded does not have an extension (e.g., .motn) Thanks again!!

sorry for being late AND short (real life has me in its cold dead hands ... hu?) ;)

the attached file is a zip
double-click and it expands.
should be a folder called Shapes and Sizes
drag this folder i nyour Movies/Motion Templates/Generator folder

after relauch of FCPX, you should find it in the Effects Tab ...

(I was sure, somewhere in this sub-board was an installer discription ... hmmm, gone?)

for further questions post here, I'll be back (you should hear THAT with my harsh German accent!!) in about 5-6 hours .... ;)

Getting closer I think! I added the shapes and sizes folder to my generator folder and the plugin is now showing up under my generators tab, however it is behaving as though the files is missing:

I don't know if it makes a difference but I am running FCP 10.1.3..

Thanks Karsten!

Unfortunately - it does :(

FCPX and M5 hould be 'in sync' according vers# ....
My M5 is v5.2. ......

aside being in the midth of editing a Hollywood project - any reason why you don't update FCPX?

Keep Tom's advice in mind - 'my' slider is convenient, but the correct worklfow = moving the 'frame' not the generator, does the trick too .....

And my deepest respect, you're very welcome - music teacher, wow! And for the rest of my life I'll not understand guitar.... my son's piano has button for each note = easy. But guitar?? Same not5,6,7 times accross the 'board' .... on the other hand; you can walk to the ladies while playing ... hmmmm?

:silly: sorry, my weird corny humo(u)r ........

Haha! Yes, the guitar is actually a really messed up instrument--I try to warn all of my students but the insist on learning it anyway!

Well at least we know what's going on. I've just been too busy to upgrade so i will do that asap so I can use your plug in. Thank you again for all of your help and time.

In about four months I will be launching a great guitar teaching website I've made especially for kids. I'll send you the link when it's up. Thanks again Karsten--God Bless!

I know a lot of guitarists who'd rampage if you claimed guitar was a difficult instrument to learn. Personally I started my kids on Piano (one also did Trombone). But they'll have guitars in high school, I'm sure.

You're very Welcome, and glad I could help a lil'…

Yeah, do me the favor to send the link - ... I'm interested in all sorts of 'didactic concepts' (hard to explain what I really mean) … for instance: Why do instrument teachers, and esp. guitarists with their incredible difficult instrument ;) show the camera point of view? There's the theory of 'mirroring':

.... funny trivia: my son was 3-4y and we started to play football (colonies speak: soccer); I play right foot. and I didn't realize, Alex immitated me, saw me as a mirror - since then he's a lefty (foot-wise) = very welcome in any team as a left-defender ....

Did any guitar-teacher ever followed that weird concept? :woohoo:

btw: love your 'folded' guitar screen-split, smart idea!

//just realizing, we are in the plugin sub-board - wrong place for chatting, we should contnue in your original post .....//
