Crawl Text (Ticker) that is actually useful! 14 Aug 2011 20:36 #805
www.FCProXUniversity.com/downloads/templ...BensCrawlingText.zip
Installation instructions included. Modified existing "Ticker" text template in FCP X to actually be useful. Turn bar fill and outline on/off, change colors of each separately. Position text easier. Position text and bar separately, plus rotation. More... NOTE: This is a work in progress, I'll be adding gradient and image fill abilities to the "bar", and other fancy tricks as I have time to work on this. Please let me know what you think, what you'd like added, changed, etc. |

I think the biggest problem with the built-in Ticker title generator is that it doesn't support more than a few words of text. If you have too much text, it never animates off the screen.
Also, I suggest that you remove the Text Position parameter from the Display Aspect Ratio snapshot widget. The widget takes priority over the published value, so the parameter cannot be changed in Final Cut Pro. Alex |

Yes, I'm working on a new text box that will animate properly with text. I think I have that fixed at this point, just need to publish.
The Aspect Ratio Snap Shot widget? Not sure what you're referring to. I don't have any widgets or aspect ratio snap shots in mine. |

Ben - Good start, but have you worked on a way for the text to complete it's crawl off screen? The scrolling works just like the TICKER title that comes with FCP X, and the text stops mid screen no matter what you do. I have series of sentences to scroll across the bottom and would like an easy way to create these throughout an hour long program. Let me know when you update the plugin.

I'm going to get that fixed up as soon as I have time. I'm overwhelmed trying to get some video courses done for a prominent training company. Once I've met that paying deadline, I'll fix this one up. Yeah, that seems to be a headache to get working properly in FCP X.

Looking forward to that. I've just dove into FCP X and the more I use it the more I like it. Very fast. Plus the advantage of a database driven editor makes a lot of sense and opens up a lot of functionality. But they dropped the ball on a ton of little things that are killing it now. The titles are just one of those things.

Here's a version of a Ticker Crawler that I posted a few weeks back that might also be of interest.

I'll try that. But here is a general issue I'm running into. My project at 1080p30 scrolls nicely on the desktop. Anyway I put it online and the scroll has momentary hiccups, stutters. Research says this is inherent with digital video. Anyone found a way to keep the scrolling moving smoothly when streaming online?

I don't think hardware as it's perfect locally, but only when streamed off the net that anyone who sees it sees the stutter. I have a quad core 3ghz Mac Pro 16gb RAM and an ATI Radion 5870 card with 1gb video ram. Also does this when viewing from YouTube, Vimeo or wherever, from my MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM and 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB graphics.
Take a look at this video. See the slight stutter in the scroll? Not there locally. Videos expired |
