There really should be some dreadful pun to introduce this effect, but I will restrain myself from inflicting it on you ...!

"TKY Swing" lets you "swing" a shot (or a title or graphic or whatever) into position in a variety of different ways:

WITHDRAWN

You can choose where the swing is hinged from, either the top edge, the bottom edge, or the centre on the X axis, and the left edge, right edge and centre on the Y axis. You can see examples of each of these in the video above.

The swing is a nice smooth sine wave and has a natural slow-down to the stop position.

You can adjust the speed of the swing, the amount of the swing, the swing duration (anything from 1-9 seconds), and also adjust the position and scale of what you are swinging.

The is a curvature control which affects the shape of the slow-down but this is mostly best left at 100%.

Very cool template! I'd tweak the anchor point a bit. Very cool.

If you're interested in taking this to the next level, check this out. I have a tutorial coming out on how to do this at macProVideo.com's The HUB site in a few weeks (sooner I hope, waiting on editors to process it).

Very cool, have you thought about making spin completely instead of just swinging back and forth?
I haven't check it yet, so maybe it's already possible to control this motion, I'm sure I'll use it, thanks a lot!

Hi Ben

It's not obvious from the examples in the video but all the anchor points are positioned at the extreme edge of frame (or dead centre). I'm not sure anything else would make much sense.

Looking forward to your tutorial - looks good so far!!!

I like the look of it. I notice it rotates like a rolodex, not exactly on the edge of the rectangle. But it's a cool look. Different from what I normally see in this type of animation.

I should have explained that the example video uses a smallish rectangle (with text inside) that sits inside a full frame, which you can't see because it's black. This is why the actual results of the effect might look different to what you'd expect. Actually what is happening is that the whole black frame is swinging (with the anchor points at the extreme edge of screen) but you're not seeing it because it's black!

Hope that makes sense - sorry for any confusion resulting from the video.

Yes, that's what I was seeing. If you had the time and motivation, you could do two versions, make a Rig, and we could select which style of "swing" to use. Throw in a Camera and give it three styles. Yes, I'm going very overboard here. But I think it's a great template.

I know we have folks of varying degrees of experience here, so for those who aren't that familiar with what anchor points actually do, here's a demo with blue lines showing where the anchor point is set.

Yeah, I'll be posting when the tutorial comes out, but I never thought about creating a swinging panel "template". Very cool and I hope you expand on it.

Following on from the discussion with Ben, I thought it would be interesting to do a new version where you could choose to offset the "hinge" (or anchor point) position, up or down (for the X rotation) and left and right (for the Y rotation).

The default behaviour remains that the hinge is always at the extreme edge of the source frame (as discussed above).

For anyone who's interested this has now replaced the version in the original post above.
