"inner drop shadow" was created by daryl
Hi, All

As said, I'm looking over the web and seem no sign of "inner drop show" text effects for the fcpx, back in 7; I remember Mr. Joe did a collection of it...anyone care to shed some light and ideas...I mean a cook direction @ Motion5 :)

Cheers/Daryl

What do you mean by "inner drop shadow"? I've never heard that term before, or don't remember. Can you describe it?

Your question has inspired me to work on a better Shadow effect for FCP X.

This shape has two instances applied: a dark external shadow and a light internal shadow:

It should be done tomorrow or the day after - I want to add a couple of features.

Oh, you mean an emboss effect. There is no "inner shadow", that's call either an emboss or light wrap. I know what you're talking about now.

An inner shadow is different from an emboss or a light wrap.

If you can imagine Alex's image, but with a solid layer behind the star rather than the transparency, and losing the outer shadow too.

The idea is that the star would then look like it is a hole cut into the layer that is actually behind it creating the illusion that the colour of the star is yet another layer being revealed through the hole. It can look great when applied to text.

Yes, that's basically built on an emboss effect.

Here's my same effect with different settings, and showing the effect on text.

Different internal angles work best for different letters - the effect is clearest on the 'W'

'Soon' is over.

Version 1 of my Alex4D Shadow effect is now available from my blog

I've done away with the angle and distance controls, and added a shadow scale control:
