spotPoint Lighting Effect ... 17 Dec 2012 05:10 #18845
This effect features flat and frontal Spot and Point light sources . I've incorporated a Drag Target for easy positioning. The installer will place the effect in a newly created Lightsource Category in the FCP X Effects browser.

Beautiful effect, Paul.
Thanks for adding the color changer too. I can see this being used in a myriad of situations, even shooting day for night. If there was such an award, you would win This Week's Best Effect. Great tutorial video too. Your work is appreciated. |

Paul,
You might want to post the video to YouTube then come back and embed it on here. A lot easier for people to view. Administrator

I'm glad you guys like it ...
Pete, Does your site support Vimeo embeds? It's on Vimeo. There's also a nice Cinemascope Toolkit video over there as well. produceNewMedia on Vimeo -paul. |

spotPoint Lighting Effect ... 19 Dec 2012 04:54 #18995
I'm working on the next version. It will include independent positioning and control of Spot and Point lights simultaneously. In this example I built it into a Title as opposed to an Effect with two independent text layers. Any opinions on this? My guess is it would be useful as a Title and also nice to have the second light in some way incorporated into my original release ...
Down below I used the Spot Light to warm up the sky. -paul. |

Glad you like it ...
I decided to scratch the Dual-Light Title. I did build out the original version (as an effect) with independent control of each light. What I will probably do is package both versions in my installer. So Ver. 1 offers two choices of light, 1 instance. Ver.2 offers dual lights simultaneously. -paul. |

spotPoint Lighting Effect ... 25 Dec 2012 14:01 #19271
spotPoint Lighting Duo is now available for download. This version features simultaneous use and control of Spot and Point Lighting. I decided to build this out as an Effect. So there is no control for text as previously suggested.
Please read the following Notes prior to installing: I decided to use a standard installer package as a delivery mechanism as opposed to the custom version that I wrote. I could have built a new custom installer for the Duo version and distributed it independently. Or I could have set things up to give the user the option to install one version or the other (Original / Duo) - or both. This would have required much more code. The package installer that I am using already supports this. It is easier to build and maintain, especially when multiple versions of a plugin are slated for distribution. If you look in the Customize section of the installer you will see the original version of spotPoint Lighting as well as the new Duo version. spotPoint.1 is the same exact version as the original release. The only thing that is different is the FCPX Browser display thumbnail. If you have the previous version installed and elect to reinstall it - the existing version will be overwritten. You should not notice any difference except for the visual change of the browser thumbnail. By the way these installer packages are easy to create. If you are developing and distributing Motion Templates and need help with creating an installer package, ping me. I'd be happy to walk you through it. I'm looking into building some sort of auto-notification system (like Sparkle) that would alert the user when new plugin versions or updates are available. The community needs something like this that is non-obtrusive to the user. Download -paul. |
