Changing Creation/Modification Dates

I know in some instances FCP X changes this metadata. Here's technical information on how to change it back via command line. Perhaps someone with more time and savey could write an Automator for this.

There's metadata and then there's metadata. That post describes how to change the filesystem view, but doesn't touch the data stored inside the file that most photographers/videographers think of as metadata. I was hoping the exiftool would do the job. While it can read the metadata from most image formats it is limited in the formats it can write. It can not update the metadata in .mov files, for example.

What I'd like to do is transcode H.264 to ProRes 422 (LT) and then copy the metadata from the original to the transcoded file. Right now this data is only part of the original file

Ah, almost no video cameras record any EXIF data. FCP X is reading file metadata.
