You could create all this with Motion's particle system but most people work with pre-recorded footage for adding smoke, dust and other organic textures to their videos.
You put the footage over your video, set the Blend Mode in the FCPX inspector to "Add" and the textures are superimposed over your video. Then you can modify the textures as you wish with speed changes (what they did in this video) and other effects until you get the result you want.
There are many sources where you can get such footage, either free or paid. Google "smoke footage", "dust footage" or just "particle footage"... and you will get an extensive list of what's available.
Some sites such as Motionvfx offer complete collections of flare, bokeh, dust, fire, smoke etc... particle footage. You can see an example here: vimeo.com/58976015#
These collections are paid (between 40 and 60 bucks for a collection), but then the footage is of very high quality (these are 2K) and you get a wide variety to pick from. Free particle footage is often lower quality and you have to take what you get, but if you take the time you may find exactly what you are looking for. It all depends on how much you value your time.
