Priceless Motion Tutorials for Replicators and Particle Emitters

Mark Spencer at Ripple Training has two MUST-DO video courses up now that are what Motion users have needed for a long time. I've done both, and as an Apple cert'ed Motion trainer, I think these are the best I've ever seen. They'll open up a whole new universe for anyone who wants to really master the power of Motion.

Mastering Motion's Particle Emitters
Mastering Motion's Replicators

There is also an updated course called Motion 5 Kinetic Typography. This is the same, as far as I can see, as the version 4 of this tutorials, but if you never got this for Motion v.4, you'll want to get this for Motion 5, if you really want to do really cool text in Motion.

Everything Ripple Training does is just top shelf, but these I wanted to stress for those learning Motion. I'm just blown away with what a fantastic job Mark did with these.

Man, they are popping out these tutorials like crazy. They are really topnotch.

Getting a bit expensive, though, if you want to keep up. ;)

And if you're a professional, you buy them right away, and that gets tacked on to what you charge clients. I'll have to post that whole "how to calculate rates" thing soon.

You are right. However, I, sadly, work for a paycheck. Rarely do any freelance work any more.
Economy is very bad in our area, so it is reassuring to know you get a check every two weeks.

Looking forward to your rates calculation.

Figure out how much you need to make a year to live on.
Figure out how many realistic hours you'll work for the year.
Divide and you have your hourly rate.

Figure out how much you're going to spend on hardware, software, training, etc, for the year.
Divide that by your annual hours figure above.
This is your Hardware Rate per hour.

Add both together, you need to make that minimum per hour AND work the number of hours you project to stay in business. It makes tracking your financial progress through the year very easy.

Of course, it all gets a little sticky when that calculated rate works out to be higher than the local market will bear...

I already have the Ripple Training FCPX Pro Series, Advanced FCPX Editing, FCPX Composting, and Motion 5 FF tutorials. They're great, but sheesh...Ripple Training must be loving the slow roll-out of the 'lost' features of FCP7 into FCPX.

The new Multicam tutorial is 29.99, and I mean that is not going to break the bank, but still this was a free update to the program, bringing back in features that were not shipped with the initial release.

They ought to offer some kind of discount to people that have already bought the Original Training Videos?

Whatever, I'm sure I'll buy it because its worth it in the end, but still; c'mon Ripple Training, its a free update after all....

I'm still working through the Apple Pro Series book for Motion 5; its hard going though. I guess I'll start some of the Ripple Tutorials for Motion after that.

They did release the updated FCPX tutorials for free and heard on MBW that they are going to release more free updated tutorials for the new features soon. The Multicam tutorials was a big one and I think they are right to charge for that because once you get your head around multicam in FCPX it will save you awful lot of time in the future, if you do multicam of course.

Where did they release the updated tutorials?

Just refreshed my Ripple Training podcasts in iTunes (where they are sent too) and nothing came up.

I think you are being paranoid:-)

I had the unfortunate situation where I had an old HD fail where I had my original FCPX training files, I emailed them and I got a new link to download a couple of days ago. So they are there as Ben said just send confirmation that you bought the original set of tutorials.

Hi Simon, not at all - we still like you ;) I just must have missed your email. Here's the scoop. The updates are free (10.0.1 and 10.0.3 coming). If you go to our twitter feed @rippletraining, and scroll down to the Oct 10th post you'll find the link - but you might as well wait until we post the 10.0.3 update early next week. It's taking a bit longer than I would have liked because Apple made some fundamental changes to the interface and all those changes have to be integrated into the movies.

Lots of us are not "twits" and rely on email. I've always gotten update info via email from RT. Be sure you're signed up on their mailing list.
