how to get rid of black background in animation?

i create a short animation for my Instagram videos.
When i import the video onto my timeline in FC, the screen goes black with animation showing.
I can fix it to a point with blend modes but i'm sure there is a simple solution

If this is something you’ll use over and over, make it a template.

If it’s a one time video clip, export as ProRes 4444 and be sure to set Color in the export window to Color+Alpha.

that didn't' seem to remove the black background.
should the background be a different color in motion? is there an opaque setting?

it looks like i needed to change the background to transparent
