Width of a box and align width

Hi,
a basic question doesn't work the align function for groups ?
I have to text elements text1 and text2 with different text width and put them into one group (both players). In order to fit the size of a box to the max width I thought that I could use the align function in order to determine the width of that group. But doesn't work. Any idea?
Sorry cant add a pic as attachment doesn't work with 2750x866 width and 85KB/jpg

well, it does…here:

two text groups, 'box' width is defined by longest text
lower example: a single element, its upper left alignedTo groups upper right
upper example: a group, its upper left alignedTo other groups upper right…

like that?

Hi,

tried it like that:

after activation of the align box gets shrinked.

ok, not easy to 'read' your projects ;)
so, my rebuild does like that:

there's a logo, there's Goals in a while box and two players names. You like to auto adjust the White Box by length of longest name…
ok easy, link the x-Scale of the White Box to the Width of the Group which contains the names.

Have an eye on Anchor points of groups, rectangles, text and text-orientation (left aligned)

Which gives …

on any longer name a longer box.
What I , again and you know from our PMs I'm stubborn on that topic, do NOT do, is the need of an AlignTo Behavior: to move the whole stuff around, simply group it:

… how's that?
Attached my project file for further investigation … ;)

okayyyyy, for peace on earth:
this version is WITH an AlignTo behave to 'patch' the whole stuff to the Logos variable size&position

… mostly 'grouping' magic… ;)

so, after reading it the umpteen times, I realize, you want the auto-size box auto-size under the names?

3rd and last try LOL

Hi Karsten,

thanks. I tried that one as well what is strange that the width starts with 0% and then gets fit to width of the text size. See pictures I don't find anywhere a keyframe that I could have set ...

No idea why link is set to 0

and then after a while gets the right size.

@ Tobi

got your project by PM… did some tests, gave a lengthy reply ;)

in short:
my assumption is, due to 'nesting' groups within groups (what I love to call matryoshkaing ) somehow, some way the Timing of an element (or parameter - which has no visible 'timing' in the Inspector ??) doesn't refer to the Projects 00:00:00 but to the 'master'-group's bin (??)…

… a topic for further investigations of Mastermind fox_mahoney?… not only 'local geometry' (reason for that puzzling '0.5' in OSCs) , but perhaps 'local timing' too??

Your project is … complex. Aside a from-the-ground-new restructuring (aka simplifying)… What fixes the '75 frames too late' is creating a clone of your reference (Both players) and use THAT to link to the x-scale…

Thanks again Karsten,

for looking into that but I had more complex ones and 2-3 subgroups should be manageable by M5.4. Well just created it from the scratch 2 Text elements and 4-5 subgroups works all fine.

No idea but you concept to create a clone solves the issue but doesn't lead to lean development ;)) Anyhow Tx again MasterMind
