What is the advantage of a title background?

When you create a new title in Motion the default is that there is a Title Background layer.
I have never understood why this is, because if you delete it, the title is transparent and looks the same if you lay it over a shot in FCPX. In fact, I have found having no Title background easier if I want to reposition the title in FCPX as then the background doesn't reposition too (why on earth would you WANT the background video to reposition in such a case?).

Is there an advantage to Title Background that I don't know of?

No.
Yes…

When you leave the bg-layer in place, you notice (already), that for example moving the Title, could unintentionally move the whole pic … What we utilize as an Adjustment Layer.
So, therefore, my first step using the Title template is deleting that layer.

But… ;)
Imagine a title affecting the clip underneath intentionally - for example, the title is not just an overlay, but should 'mix' = aka comp-modes (multiply, screen, difference et al) with the clip underneath? … THEN, that very special 'dropzone' called source/background is needed.
