Animating an Album Cover

Hello all,

I have a question regarding how to animate an album cover, as in make it more lively and 3-D per say.

I felt inspired to delve into this graphics world by Pilot Industries and what they specifically do under their Motions section at the bottom. pilotindustriesx.com/

^^I would like to know the basis behind how this is done.... is this simply a plugin and/or are there also techniques to go about physically animating the 2-D image

Thank you in advance.
