Linking behavior to audio - problem linking to the correct audio track
I hope someone can help me as I am getting stuck in Motion.
I am editing a little education thingie where a journalist interviews a painting (sic!). Yes, you read right, it's an interview between a journalist and a painting and it's actually quite interesting
So I want to show the painting "speaking" every now and then and I want to achieve this by applying a filter in Motion and then linking some of the filter's parameters to the voice of the painting. I get what I want in Motion but find it hard to export it as a template for FCPX.
Thing is that the audio I want to use is not in the video I want to put the effect on. While I want to put the effect on a close up of the painting the audio comes from a different clip. (Clip with audio is on primary storyline, painting is a connected clip).
Is there a way I can publish a template from motion and then in the generator tell FCPX which audio I want the behavior to link to? Like I can use a dropzone for video?
Hope this is somehow understandable and would love to hear from you
Thanks, Seb

From what I understand, Motion templates do not allow us to use Audio channels to drive behaviors or use audio from Drop Zones in FCPX, yet. What I would recommend is to use Motion with the Audio Behaviors you need and then export the rendered pieces and then assemble them in FCPX.
Templates are a very powerful thing, but they still have their limitations.
Please let me know if you have any questions and have an amazing day!

What Deyson said: No.
Killed my little fun project, a talking Mr Potatoe-Head template:

I wish it did work in FCPX, I have tons of ideas for visualizers. I guess we must wait.

There are several, existing parameters in M5, which would be of high interest in making them 'publishable', such as Motion Blur Settings, Shapes Control Points, etc.
conc. Audio, what I find interesting:
there ARE (a few) 3rd party Audio-plugins for FCPX (yep, I'm aware of AUD …) , but dramatically less than video ones. And, afaik, you can not 'publish' LPX-build 'filters/effects' as a plugin to FCPX…
Which means: there are APIs within FCPX to allow clips audio to be manipulated by 3rd party 'filters', but there's no 'tool box' aside the plugin SDK to create them.
… but I'm with you Deyson: evolution not revolution conc. features…
An AUDIO-DROPZONE would be a killer-feature… having dozen of plugins in mind.......
And would implicate a new list of Audio-Behaviours, -Filters, -Generators, et al.
Maybe in Motion 6 ......................

I would love to see the audio behaviors added in and filters. I would think adding audio is a lot harder than I could imagine, if not they may have had it already.
Motion 6, I am hoping for something amazing!

I might suggest you look at CrazyTalk by Reallusion.
While not designed to interface with FCPX it can produce video files that can be imported. Crazy Talk can use any audio file to link facial expressions and mouth movements, perfect for a photo or painting.
Just a thought. Kind of a fun program to boot.
Hope this helps, Greg
