Motion 5.3 transition broken in FCPX 10.2.3? was created by moonpost
I just created a transition in Motion 5.3 and when it was used within FCPX 10.2.3 it shows up as the red "missing media" in preview and doesn't work in the timeline. Is this supposed to happen? Does anything made in Motion 5.3 **REQUIRE** FCPX 10.3?
Or am I missing something in the process?

Ok, I examined the .motr files in TextWrangler and the main differences (there are others in the file, but no worries so far) seem to be right at the top of the files. The Motion 5.3 export contains these lines on 3 and 5:
<ozml version="5.8">
<displayversion>5.3</displayversion>
If you edit them to be:
<ozml version="5.6">
<displayversion>5.1.2</displayversion>
then it seems to work just fine inside FCPX 10.2.3

... uh, maybe not working so great. FCPX seems a little bit crashy now and whenever I try to publish parameters it doesn't seem to come across...
so does Apple need to update 10.2.3 or perhaps better yet Motion 5.3 to not have this issue?

just personal observation, no 'engineer proofed':
plugins made in Motion demand a FCPX of same 'actuality' …
don't forget, M is mainly a front-end for FinalCut innards.
so, a M5_3 plugin works only in FCPX 10_3
had the same issue with M5_2 created plugins in FCPX 10_1 ...
… have to admit, your 'hack' is tempting …

Hi moonpost and Karsten, new member here, just signed up to ask a related question.
I have FCPX 10.2.3 and prefer not to update to 10.3
However my Motion 5 recently updated to 10.3.
I'm new to Motion, so it may have been a bit naive of me to let this happen. But I never considered that it would cause compatibility issues.
Now I have come across the issue, where I cannot create a Motion template that works in Final Cut.
My question is: Does anyone know of a way to downgrade Motion back to 10.2.3?
Unfortunately I don't have a Time Machine backup recent enough to help.
Any assistance is much appreciated.
Dan

you mean Motion5_2?
No. Not possible.
If you don't have a backup of the older version, you're toast.
Apple pulls instantly any previous versions when a new one is avail.
