How to do this? was created by RickLFoy
Does anyone know how to create something like this using Motion 5? I have created a drawing where an animated character walks out and plants a seed then walk out of the shot. The seeds starts to grow roots and develop into a tree which I will have spelling out a word in the roots & tree. I am using for a opening. Any ideas is helpful. Thanks in advance. Here is a link to the closest idea I am trying to do.

With a bezier path, you could have a line (the roots) "write on" (shape behavior) those bezier lines. Well, actually for the texturing you'd make it an air brush. As for the plant, no, you can't make a plant magically grow. That would take some modeling and a fractals plugin in something like Modo. It would be doable, but not the plants growing. You'd have to learn to use bezier lines and air brush controls and the Write On behavior, or learn to keyframe End Point Offset parameters. Perhaps a series of bezier lines drawing onto the Canvas in sequence.

Assuming you already have motion 5, you can download the additional content and check out the 'Vine' examples, particularly 'Vine-Open' and reverse engineer/study those for some ideas. as well as poking though some of motions content library for things like 'sprout' for more example of what you could pull off.

Yes I do have motion 5. Before I say this I want to make sure you clearly understand me. I really do not like a lot of the graphics like the one you reference and many tutorials because they all look generic / amateurish. I am an Avid and After Effects guy converting to FCPX & Motion for several reasons (mostly cost). I think a lot of the tutorials that people post about FCPX & Motion does not do the application any justice because the examples looks so generic. However, I see the potential in both and this is the reason why I am learning them. I was hoping someone with a strong background could direct me to other resources that really explore the depths of these application. I do appreciate the advice.

Your experience with AE will only confuse you in Motion. You must learn a new way of thinking about how to approach your projects top take advantage of Motion's behaviors (which will only confuse you and frustrate you at first). The project you describe could be done with vector art and write-on or it could be done with keyframes on puppet rigs. But animating a puppet in Motion is not much like using the parenting, expressions, and puppet tools in AE.
I'd break this down into separate projects that can be rendered as separate movies and then combined in FCPX.
1. Puppet movie rendered and reimported to place over backgrounds.
2. Germination and growing artwork and animation
3. Spelling effects that bring on the letters
4. Text characters come forward to create your show titles and logos.

If you need this to be a seamless project with camera movements instead of cuts or other transitions, you might still consider breaking it up into manageable chunks and render out any movies that you know will not be changing. For instance, say you have clouds in the sky. There's a movie you can pre-render.

Ripple Training offers what I think is the best Motion 5 instruction. They are not amateurs, their stuff is not generic.
