Zoom in and making another scene

Hello

Can you help me with a tutorial how to make this effect in 1:24?

vimeo.com/59953762

What i want do is precisely what shows in the video, having a scene and using an eye and then changing the scene by zooming in.

Do you know if i can do the same effect but for example:

1. One person holds an iPhone
2. Then i use track x (haven't bought it yet) and place one scene
3. I zoom in the iPhone and then change another scene?

Thank you in advance

that vimeo clip never loads so I can't help you directly but tracking is relatively easy if you prepare the shot properly. You probably don't need TrackX unless you're going try to make money on the effect. The issue with most iPhone screen simulations is the shooters fall to prepare the replacement shots for the proper scaling and they don't practice with the effects before committing to the shoot. Learn how the tracker works, get some help on figuring out if you need dots on the corners of the iPhone screen or a solid piece of colored paper.
Your choice of transitions between scenes that appear on the phone screen can make or break the effect. Will you continue to zoom into the phone, filling the screen with the new scene, or will you back off and reveal the phone and the person holding it are now in another place?

Hope you get more specific help form the wonks who can see your vimeo clip.

Hi Iván
Welcome to the forums.
You can easily create the zoom in effect inside FCPX. No need for TrackX unless the actors (image) is moving. Using a tripod mounted camera and non-moving actors is best here.
For the zooming, iPhone not the best, better to use a camera with a zoomable lens. iPhones will lose detail as you zoom in, the exact opposite of what you want. (Here I am not sure if you mean you will be using the iPhone as a camera or if you want the image changing on the iPhone screen.)
Doing the zoom in via the actual camera, gives you the best resolution throughout the shot, but if you need to do it all in post, record in the highest resolution you can with a good frame rate. Higher resolution will look better with zooming in.
Then you just stack the 2 clips and you can use a keyframe mask to transition between what see as a reflection in the eye (or iPhone screen). You will need to keyframe the opacity and the mask size as you zoom in and back out.
You may also want to duplicate a clip and apply a Gaussian blur that is keyframed as well. Helps in smoothing out the transition.
I did something similar, but with the zoom out reversed (mirror effect) to the give the impression of someone recalling (visualizing) a past event.

Hope this helps, Greg

Thank you both. @Greg: What I want is a transition like the one with the eye but apply in an iPhone or iPad. For example

I'm filming the bride and the groom, they are giving a kiss and the groom is holding an iPhone in front of them, the IPhone is showing another scene, for example, their first dance. Then It zooms in and the scene with their first dance is full screen

Can I do that?

I have to use a tripod forcely, but won't be a problem if the groom is not holding the iPhone very steady?

I can stack the "first dance clip" into the "kiss clip" but if the groom moves the iPhone at least a couple of milimeters, won't the borders of the iPhone match with the "first dance clip"?

Do you have your example in order I can see it?

Thank in advance

Hi Iván
Only have a few minutes today, sorry.
So how I would approach this would depend of several factors.
Is this a real wedding or are you shooting a scene for a movie. Real weddings are stressful and you can't yell cut and reshoot.
If real, then the "target" (the iPhone screen) would be distracting if covered with a piece of lime green paper. But if it is for a movie scene, that's what I would do. Make compositing easier.
I'll just put a plug in for TrackX (pun intended) as a 3rd party plug-in for FCPX. It does make it much easier to do this type of screen replacement where the target moves. But @ $99.00USD you may want to take the harder road and keyframe the clip. It is powered by the "Mocha engine" that lets the computer do all the hard work, even making a green screen less necessary, but I would still do that if not a real wedding.

Apple does provide some simple point tracking that can make it easier, but it is no where full on motion tracking. The iPhone's near rectangle does help here, but if the points you have assigned to track gets obscured, you will lose the connections.
More target movement, longer shots, and how much the perspective changes and how quickly all add to the manual work needed, but yes you can do it in either FCPX or better in Motion5.
Try it, it is free.
Here's Apple's kb on Motion 5 tracking… support.apple.com/kb/PH16555?locale=en_US
A full green screen on the iPhone screen will make it easier to composite the replacement scene especially if the screen gets covered by a finger or something.
You will need to use key framing most likely for correcting tracking, perspective (distort), zoom and maybe a shape mask due to round edges, but a green screen will help in this.
If you have Motion 5, you can also link zoom behaviors for both shooting camera and the video on the replacement green screen and even the distortion(I think, didn't try this). How difficult and time consuming this is totally depends on how the scene is shot.
It is just manual work, sometimes frame by frame, other times easier.
Gotta go
Hope this helps, Greg

Thank you Greg.

I haven't thought about the green screen. it is a real wedding, so what you suggests seems to me the best option.

Thank you for all your time and patience

Hi Iván, back again briefly.
I forgot you posted in Motion topic, so assuming you have Motion 5, you can do a 4 corner motion tracking and it should work out for you. You may or may not need to keyframe anything in Motion.

Here is one of many video tutorials available on doing this…
vimeo.com/78873112

He has a good tip on tracking for points that go off screen, but you can also do this at the last frame before the corners go off screen and change the connection point.
You can add a rectangular mask with rounded corners that is linked to mimic the rounded corners of an iPhone.
Once you complete the clip in Motion, just insert into FCPX timeline.

Hope this helps, Greg
