Hey guys,
I'm starting to muck around with Motion 5.
Lately I've been doing 'match move' with text attached to a subject, but I haven't used Analayze motion.
My question is, when & why do you need to use Analyze motion & What's the difference? Thanks

Analyze Motion only does analysis, it's used for reference by some of the other tracking behaviors, like match move.

You don't have to use it as any of the tracking behaviors can also analyze the track and give you what you need. When I use it, I treat it like bucket for trackers. Say I know I'm going to do several tracking operations, like a portion track and a few corner pins. Sometimes, I will just use an analyze motion behavior, run about 10 trackers and then come back later and reference that behavior. In some ways it fits the old way a lot of tracking software worked. You analyzed and then applied that data to other operations. What's nice about motion, is you can still work this way, or you can just apply what you need (match move, stabilize, etc.) and get right to it. :)

...oh, it would also be useful if you have an assistant. You could have them run a bunch of track and then they could save that to a library in a .molo file. they send it to the compositor/editor and then then do the finish or even clean up work.

Analyze Motion simply builds the movement database, and stores it. You can then use that to apply to other motion tracking or other parameters in other layers or behaviors. It doesn't "do" anything but the analysis and store the data for later use, or for use elsewhere.

Say I want to track several things to the same point. I use Analyze Motion, and apply that to, oh let's say, 5 individual Match Move behaviors, each one applied to one of 5 separate objects, each in its own layer. One analysis, one source, multiple tracking objects.

Awesome Thanks GFXzen & BenB..Thanks for the explanation :)
sometimes we do things, but don't really understand why we're doing it.
