What idiot thought photo's was the best place for video??? The ipad ios has a perfectly functional video app, but no the genius at Apple thought photo was the best place..
To Apple's credit, we are slowly seeing the introduction of 3D into video editing, at least we have a pretty good 3D text system, and if you get it right, 3D symbols..A step in the right direction.
I was always perplexed as to why the ipad or ipad mini was not used more an extension of FCPX, as a 2nd monitor, logger, something along that line, using either bluetooth or through the USB on the mac or mac laptop. I can only assume it was thought of and rejected, love to know the reason for rejection. I have seen a few solutions, but none really seemed to stay the course, none of the solutions marketed widely. That I find strange, the ipad is a great portable device, expensive and underutilized.
To clear up my statement, I was referring to 2nd monitoring, not sure about data logging...I am sure lumberjack does a great job with an ipad!!

I would love to see Motion & FCPX run on iPad Pro. That would be fun and a nice break away from the computer.
However I would rather see the development team focuc their resources on making the products more stable and faster. I have seen too many products that loose stability, function, design and speed because they choose to compete on more features.
From what I understand Apple's Final Pro and Motion Development Teams are small so they have to focus on the most important things first, which to me is software design, stability and speed. Once they have a solid system that can rountrip with Motion, FCPX and Logic flawlessly, then I would not mind they add all the other features we can dream of.
I also believe many features we want will be handled by third party creators, which is great as it allows Apple's development team focus on making the software faster and smoother.
The last thing we want is for FCPX or Motion to go down this path: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_bloat
Or this one: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feature_creep

One might say that now FCPX is heading down a bloatware path, maybe a standalone 3D app that handles titles and objects, and maybe a revised 2015 version of Soundtrack Pro, I would love something with a bit of power, but not as expensive or complex as Logic.
Maybe FCPX 11.0 will be a suite, with Color x-FCPX-3D Pro-SoundTrack X???

iMovie, Garage Band and iPhoto I believe will fill in alot of the missing pieces. For example I have no problem if my producer sends me a rough cut of a spot in iMovie and then I use FCPX for the final edit. I do not think they do not need something as complicated for a rough cut as FCPX.
I actually enjoy Logic. I miss Soundtrack but I have been missingn it less over time. There is only one peice that is missing in Logic that Soundtrack had, but I am willing to bet Apple Development is working on something better.
If we want something lighter than Logic maybe Garage Band may be a solution down the line.
Personally, I would love to see smooth roundtripping of all Apple Media Apps, iPhoto, Logic, iMovie, Garageband, FCPX, Motion and more. We can then choose the level of complexity we may need to get our work done.

If it did work with FCPX, I could see it being used as a viewer screen, showing histograms, multi clip switching, and/or maybe some kind of data logging thing so maybe 2 people could work on a project at the same time. one person would be on the iPad pro. But like i said....mainly for Motion because it entails drawing!

But it would be great to get some of these new pencil and marker styles they have on the iPad Pro into Motion. Guess I am just not feeling the love from Apple on Motion recently. I feel like their missing the boat on this.
There are apps that make iPads, even iPhones and iPod touch an extension of your laptop/desktop monitor ... if that helps.
Air Display is one ... I think there are others now as well.
Though, I don't see the iPad Pro being much more help than a normal iPad over the short term considering it still runs iOS. Yes, it has a larger display and it is a great drawing platform with more processing power ... but until Apple can produce a tablet that will run a touch version of OS X ... it will still be rather limited in scope by comparison.

muddygun wrote: It doesn't even have to be a app that with the program open..like Logic. It could be a sketch book thing that keeps the points and layer information that could import directly into Motion. So if you do draw something, you will have access to everything you did on your iPad in Motion.
Adobe has a couple of advanced drawing/sketching apps for iOS ... I don't know for sure if they export to a layered .psd to .tiff file ... but if they do, that could solve your needs.

But lets get back to original topic... I don't thing we will see a FCPX on the iPad Pro running iOS. But there is a iMovie Lite version under the name iMovie. Which you can edit and move your project to FCPX.
For Motion don't see Apple putting anymore support for it on the iPad Pro... not even the option using the iPad Pro as a Tablet.

Has Apple under delivered on the product? I really cannot see how Apple cannot make a device a tad thicker, with USB3.0, micro sd card reader, make it more universal...Without the expansion slots, the power is hobbled badly..

This is what frustrates me about Apple, they seem to stop 1 step to early in product development, be it software or hardware... Why not make the ipad a few nonometers thicker, add the extra hardware for $10 a unit more??? I am sure if the ipad came with sd cards, usb3.0, or other data transfer ports, it would sell even better...

If we edit in iPad Pro we should edit in Proxy format. I also believe that Proxy files will continue to get smaller to take less space.
Soon we will not need transfer ports cables. I personally would leave that to third party solutions and have Apple focus on making the ipad thinner, faster and more powerful. Apple development probably did not want to work on Ports that will eventually soon be obsolete.

I love the idea of having proxy files, but FCPX has messed this up so badly, it should be easy, in fact it should be a check box in preferences, and have it's own setup in Inspector, but it does not. Editing "on the road" is a bit of a mission to set up, I just have this feeling maybe engineers are not the right people designing FCPX....
In what way is this ipad a professional device as the PRO seems to suggest? Sure it uses an stylus, but it has no professional ports, no mention of professional external devices, scanners, printers...What professional software will it run???

Final Cut Pro X is not perfect, but I do not think any NLE is perfect or will ever be, they just try to be the best they can with the ever changing technology.
Pro I believe is the bigger screen, stylus and some features that I am sure will pop up in the future. For Printers and Scanners most have Wifi enabled connections.
Professional has become such a relative term. There are professionals out there making $10,000 - $20,000 designing websites using their mac book air. So I guess it depends on the profession. Photographers would love this for scoping and proof their work. Affinity can help with desiging motion work. Who knows what else.
I can actually see this be a good tool for producers to offine edit a rough cut movie out on the field for final post in FCPX later.

I have a 2nd generation iPad, and I have a WiFi drive to store stuff on for it. I traveled the country since the 1st iPad was released, doing business, running two different businesses off of one iPad, on the road. It does a hell of a lot. The Camera Kit is really handy, too, so I have access to camera card content, and to any USB device that is built to communicate with an iPad.
I can connect my Apogee Quartet, record 4 channels at once, and have a full powered DAW on it ( Auria ).
Video will require a lot more power to do anything beyond iMovie, and editing on such a small screen, geez, my rMBP is tiny enough.
And I can send stuff to my WiFi printer from my iPad already, have been doing so for years.
The iPad is very capable and powerful, but it isn't a full fledge desktop computer yet. Serious video editing has a ways to go with tablets yet. The power and speed simply isn't there yet.
