More specifically, if you remember the Slip, Slide, ripple, and Roll tools from FCP7 and down...
How do I adjust the video in Motions timeline without moving around the "placeholder" in the timeline?
This it kinda hard to explain, but imagine the video layer in Motion, which is the blue bar, as a window. And in the window is a long line of pictures, but you can only see part of it through the window...so say the blue bar occupies 10 seconds on the timeline, but the video is 20 seconds. Without moving the blue bar, how do I move the video to change the start and end of the video?
Clear as mud?

It was called the "Slip" tool in FCP7.
Here is the description from Apple's manual:
"Performing a slip edit does not change a clip’s position or duration in the Timeline, but instead changes what portion of the clip’s media appears in the Timeline. The Slip tool allows you to move a clip’s In and Out points simultaneously."

Yes, Motion has some edit tools that come in super handy, and most users don't know they exists. More info in the user manual.
