Create a pulsating star

I was wondering if anyone can help me in the right direction.
I need to make a gently pulsating star (as in star of Bethlehem) to key over a static night sky shot. I see that there are some SciFi stars in the Motion5 library but they are all very epileptic in their movements - much too extreme. Despite twiddling with their Emitter preferences I have been unable to adjust it to how I'd like it to be.
I am looking for a simple circular star shape with a fat, blurry glow that pulsates gently.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I came up with this version. The length and widths pulsate, as well as the glow. All done inside of Motion, so you can adjust anything you want.

I highly encourage you all to reverse engineer it, improve it. I simply put Randomize behaviors on the width, start point, end point of the line. You have to make a line (or any shape outline) Airbrush to do that. I'd be interested to see what someone can improve on that, cause it is just really super basic and plain.
