I've had the same issue in FCPX. I did subtitles in different languages, and some languages were this glitchy. Because i had no time, i exported parts separately - sometime this bug appeared, sometimes no. When i changed font size on some subtitles it became normal, so, i could export. I thought it was a font bug, may be i even reported to Apple.
Anyway, try to change font size

Are you using one font for both Chinese and Western characters ?

I have very, very little experience with this but I've had similar problems in other softwares when using mixed fonts. Motion is not the only one doing this.

Creating a separate text entry might help too.

But yes, it is annoying behaviour...

I have seen this several times, not just in FCPX, but other apps. It has been the result of a corrupt font, or improperly encoding on a font, especially with free fonts found around the net. Random bolding, random characters. If I must use that particular font I try to find what characters are the issue, if not find another version of the font.

For starters, and along the lines of what others have asked, what is the font you are using? Is it font that came on the computer or a font downloaded from online? Next, does it happen with only this font or all fonts? As others have stated, corrupt fonts may not render correctly sometimes. I'd start by using the Font Book app to check your fonts. Select them and then use the Font validation option in the File menu. I'd also try a few different fonts for comparison. Again, to echo the other posts here, it might be worth checking this font in other apps to see what happens.

OSX makes unicode characters available across all fonts. I have noticed many inconsistencies with "font substitutions" across Motion and FCPX, particular since the introduction of 3D text.

Try using specific (System installed) fonts that are known to contain the complete Chinese character set, and different fonts for the English/western text — that is: don't use a western font's unicode character set to include Chinese in your design; use a specific font of Chinese characters so that no substitution will occur. (Or vice versa.)

For the western text, it might be helpful to stay within the FCPX ("standard") font collection. Try Proxima Nova. I also find Helvetica Neue to be quite good across Motion-FCPX.

We see all sorts of random problems with fonts at our shop, throughout all apps. FCPX and Motion might have a particular issue with some fonts, but it could be the font, the app or the OS itself that can cause the issue.

If you have this issue, please report it to the FCPX team.
