Audio in a Generator?

I'm trying to create Bars & Tone with a slate as a FCPX Generator. I have it working, but I can't seem to get the audio to work. Do Generators not support audio? If not, how else could I do this so that all the editor needs to do is add the bars & tone with the slate?

The reason I'm doing this is because the editor isn't very experienced and isn't great with exact time code. So, I thought I'd try to make everything as easy as possible for him.

Thanks,

Jared

Also, is there any way to publish a text layer instead of using the Editable in FCP feature?
So the editor would insert the text into the published parameters in the 'Generator' tab.

Hello. From what I understand we can not include audio in Generators yet. However you may want to create a compound clip of the tone and bars and he can just drag that in to the projects. The slate can then be a separate generator. This will not be a one step process but a two step. Drag in Tone & bars from Library Browser and then add Generator for the slate from the Generator Browser.

Please let me know what you think. :)

I figured out you can publish the text box. I didn't see it at first because the little drop down arrow is hidden until you hover over it.

That should work. I'll show him that way and then also just adding the tone audio from the browser and see which he thinks is easier.

All in all, I'm so glad I started learning Motion because I'm able to make all of our jobs a lot easier. Prior to me coming to work on this show, they were piecing everything together in the timeline as separate layers. While that does get the job done, it's so much easier when a graphic is on one layer in the timeline.

Plus you may want to keep the bars and tone separate as you may need it for something different.

I agree. Right now I am working on a national spot that required many different phone numbers. The spot was done once and all the animations with the phone number were done as a Text generator. Now every time a client asks for a new number version I just need to duplicate the master project and type in the new number. Easy as pie. It is very helpful especially since we have done over 80 versions of the same spot with different numbers. :)

I am happy you are happy with Motion. It is a very powerful software. I use Motion and blender.org for all my animation needs. Not bad for less than $50 in total cost. :)

I'm a MODO user. I could never get to grips with Blender.
I started out on Lightwave back in 2008 and then had to learn Maya when I attended Full Sail. And since then I've learned MODO and have used it almost exclusively for my 3D stuff.

I can understand. It took me a while to get comfortable with Blender. I have also used Lightwave as well max and C4D in the past.

Blender is pretty powerful for being free. I am huge fan of its physics, fluids and simulation engine.

Have you seen their last demo reel:

Does Modo do Physics and Sims? I do not see that in their features. I am big fan of physics as it saves me tons of time when I do some animations.

MODO is a full featured animation software, which includes physics and simulations. However, if you're thinking about the game engine physics that Blender can do, then no.

I have used MODO only since 701 and currently use 801. 901 was released earlier this year and added quite a lot. However, if you're already using Blender and can use it well, I wouldn't switch to MODO or any other 3D package.

Thank you. I always like to see what is out there. If I can find something better and easier to use than what I use now I would be curious about it. Thank you. :)

Modo has several add-ons to give it more functionality. It is also easier to learn/use. There are also, depending on your needs, other less expensive, good options to both of these apps.

Very cool. I will check it out when I have a chance. I see they have a free trial. :)

When you mentioned other good options than these both apps, what other app ,other than Modo, do you refer to?

In case anyone is interested in Blender they also have free add-ons here: wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts

And some for sale here: cgcookiemarkets.com/blender/all-products.../scripts-and-addons/
