HDRI Sky in Apple Motion?

HDRI Sky in Apple Motion? was created by Schwyhart
Is there a way to wrap a HDRI sky image around my scene in Motion?
I did a Google search and could find anything. It's difficult when you search for something Apple Motion related and all you get are 'motion' graphics in AE. For this reason, I wish Apple Motion was named differently.
Thanks,
Jared

I agree with you the name Motion makes it tricky to find info specific to Apple’s Motion software. As I know the only HDRI tool right now inside of Motion is with the new 3D text. For anything else you may need to look at 3rd party tools like mObject. I am sure more features will be added to Motion in the future to give it more 3D power.

Here's the best I could do inside of Motion:
app.frame.io/d/1ae6a2ef-92c8-4542-8a0a-9d275a978b39
I tracked the building and set the sky to follow it's position. It's not the best, but it works for my needs.

Looks good. Out of curiosity why did you not add the HDRI in the original 3D program?

Well I thought I had it set to, but I guess not. I don't really want to re-render it either. This is just a pre-pre-viz.

Okay, it seems as though Motion is forcing the alpha channel on my image sequence and removing the sky. I brought the .tga into Photoshop and the sky is there. So, is there a way to control the aplha in Motion. I can't seem to find it.

Great that you found it!
You could also use PNG files as well since it hold alpha channel.

I don't know if this is of any use, but there is a plug in that does HDRI stuff directly in FCPX:
store.pixelfilmstudios.com/plugin/plugin-proworld
I saw it after I bought a similar plug in that converts 2d photos into 3d perspective animations:
store.pixelfilmstudios.com/plugin/plugin-projection
I have not used the HDRI plugin, but the projection one does work very well.
Word of warning; these guys have a bad reputation here and elsewhere after they allegedly did some skulduggery with another companies dust mattes. This usually comes up when this company is mentioned, so just a heads up.
