Are there any hints or clues as to what Apple is planning? I feel like I never know when releases will happen and I for sure never know what features they're working on.

No one does, we'll never know, fact of life.
You're better off asking how many species of deep sea life do we not already have cataloged.
The old saying about Apple's development plans is old and true; "Those who know can't say, and those who say don't know."
