Find the camera back. was created by Clo
Hello,

Question the short way :

How to 3D track in Motion ?

Question the long way :

In Motion there is this motion tracking behavior but this is not 3D aware. If I am right, this can't be used if you have a movie and want to add a text or an object in post that then moves exactly as if it was there when you filmed it. After Effects has this 3D Camera Tracker that superimposes track points and makes it possible to link to these points text or objects. These then move as if they were in 3D space. Motion does not have this. Mocha does planar tracking and after setting up some planes, it can generate a camera with its moving data (3D camera solving) and export that to After Effects where then you get the movie and the "regenerated" camera. However, exporting to Motion is not possible. So, is there a way to achieve 3D tracking in Motion ?

Thanks,
Clo.

You are correct, Motion does not do Camera Matching (tracking the camera position in 3D space). I believe that Mocha Pro does have a 3D camera solver that can export to a Motion project or camera, but I haven't tried it. The only other options I'm aware of are Syntheses or PFTrack, these are dedicated camera matching software that have Motion exports. Both have demo versions you can test.

Hello and good day. :)

Another solution would be to use Blender which is a free and SUPER power program. You may be be able to do everything you need in that App alone. If you need to export the keyframes you can do it using a Blender to Motion Script.

Below are some links which may be of interest:

Please let me know if you have any questions. I am a huge fan of Blender and it is what I use to create my 3D animations to bring into Motion. Here is one recent example that you may download for free to use: motion-master-templates.com/polaroid-play/

Have an amazing day! :)
