Motion 5 does not save since I upgraded to Yosemite? was created by chk70
Motion 5 does not save since I upgraded to Yosemite! If I work on a project and then save and turn of my computer when I turn my computer on again the project is no more!! Very very stressful. I´ve lost a whole days work. Anybody else have this problem.

No saving problems for me, either. Where are you saving to? Are these generic projects, or FCPX templates?

What exactly do you mean by, they are no more? Are you seeing them inside of FCPX's template browsers before shutting down the Mac? You're doing a Command-S, exiting the app, then shutting down properly?

Template, title and lower third are saved in the Motion Template folder, title as .moti, transition as .motr.
Have you open FCPX to see if your title and transition was in the title and transition library ?

Um, so you do see them in the Motion Templates folders, right? They should be accessible in FCPX, then. Not sure what you mean that they are no more when you boot back up.

What happens is this, I save my project (command s or file>save) to a folder I namned films, turn of my computer (apple>turn off) when I start my computer again and open Motion 5 i can´t find the saved file under "open recent" I can however find it under "all my files" but then it has a what I think is a Motion 5 produced name something like 20%..motn20%LO etc. So it seem´s like the files does not disappear however it does not recognize the names I give the files. The files does appear in FcpX but funny enough not in the latest saved version of the project. Other strange things since Yosemite, Canvas turns all white, I can see the blue round handles but the rest is all white. If I turn Motion 5 off and on again it´s back to normal. I can´t see the typefaces, I can open the rolldown menu for the typefaces but where you usually see the typefaces there are only thin lines. I´ll attach a screenpic. Strange but probably an easy fix for a professional. Now I monopolized your time again, sorry.

1- If you're creating FCPX templates, you don't get to pick where the project files go to. They automatically go to the appropriate place in the Motion Templates folder hierarchy. So you are working on a generic Motion project.
2- I would look directly inside of the "films" folder and see what is in there. Not the "All My Files" side bar. That side bar is a joke. It will list temp files you should see in the first place. What you are seeing are the auto-backup files Motion creates. These can contain the "%20" in the names. Not sure why those characters suddenly started to show up in Yosemite, but they open fine for me. Again, go directly to the "file" folder you originally saved it to and find the original.
3- From what I've read, this specific problem is not a known Yosemite issue, but not to say you're one of the few getting it. Motion is acting up for me badly in Yosemite now, also, but in different ways.
- First, I'd get "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com), and use it to trash Motion's preferences. It is a free download.
- Second, I'd run Disk Utility and "repair" all my drives ("verify" is a waste of time).
- You may have a corrupted Motion project file, which unfortunately there isn't much you can do about. Never upgrade an app or OS in the middle of a project, as these types of things can happen.
Yep, if I rely on Motion for paying work, I'd NOT upgrade to Yosemite just yet, for sure.

Henrik,
Seeing your recent post about the FCP X timeline going blank and this one about your Motion viewer turning white I think you should follow Ben's advice. Trash the preferences for both applications and run Disk Warrior on all your drives. If you don't have Disk Warrior you should at least do a Repair Permissions on your system drive to start with. The issues you mention are quite exceptional with regard to Yosemite. Although initial testing has been going very well for us, we are not updating our production machines to Yosemite yet. And it will definitely be a clean erase and install.

Or hold command+option while launching Motion to have it delete them along with it's caches.
