Hi All,

I'm interesting in learning how to make animated infographic type videos for certain scientific concepts; similar to this:

Is this in Motion's wheelhouse, or do I need to get After Effects (or something else)? This video here seems to indicate that Motion might be alright for this: vimeo.com/86744033

If it is, can someone point me to tutorials or other learning resources for making these types of videos specifically? Thanks.

That's what Motion is made for. Check out Ripple Training's Motion series of courses. Best around.

I may be a bit late but I agree with Ben. Motion is great for this kind of work.

Here's a video I made with Motion a little over 2 years ago. What did you end up making?

@stupidraisins, that looked great! can i ask, did you create all the objects in motion as well? like the lamp, purse, shoes, even the people? i love motion, and i wish more people would post final videos like this on here to show off what it's capable of

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

No, the objects were bought and pre made in Illustrator; although most of them could've been made in Motion.

were they made in illustrator for a particular reason? was it to have a higher resolution image than what would be made inside Motion? Or was it done purely because the creator was more knowledgeable in Illustrator than Motion when it comes to creating objects?

I'm just curious. I'm trying to do more work in Motion and i've been creating objects from scratch in Motion just recently, and wanted to know other peoples workflow.

They were done in Illustrator because the designer was more familiar with Illustrator.

An AI file in Motion can have the same resolution as a Motion shape. Both are vectors and awesome!

I'd love to see what you've made.

I made that intro completely with motion. same thing with the credits. The great thing is that I created the intro in Motion and exported it as an apple pro res so i could use it in FCPX. then i created the credits and published the text box to be editable in FCPX. So when I create my little stupid (very stupid) episodes, I just throw the intro it, and then go to my generators in FCPX where i exported my credits sequence, and it lets me edit the text right there in FCPX.

But creating all the objects from scratch in Motion was pretty easy and fun. Masks are so easy to use and manage. Just wish there was some sort of erase tool sometimes instead of having to mask it. But it was nice to create the objects all in one program. i'm working on a new project now for an actual client, i'll try and remember to post it on here when it's finished.

is there a place on the forums here where people share their Motion projects?

Your video made me laugh! I like the food splatters. They said, "Here. Eat this. I don't care." Haha!

Motion is a ton of fun!

There's a Made with FCPX section but I don't see a Made with Motion section.

I watched more dinners and they're great. For some reason they're mesmerizing. Thanksgiving Dinner made me laugh as well.

One handed celery chop for the win!

Make sure you have the client's permission to post any work you do for them or you could potentially be in a world of hurt.

Very true. In my case I embedded the client's YouTube video that they use publicly.
