Gaussian Mask Effect, help needed

Hello there,
So my goal is to create a FCPX Effect in Motion that is a Gaussian Blur with a built in mask so I can blur out just part of the frame without having to duplicate my clip. I started with just the basic Gaussian Blur effect and then added a bezier mask that fills the screen and has 8 points. I then linked each of those points to transparent images whose positions I could control. That worked really well, I just had to adjust each point by sliding or typing the onscreen position in the Final Cut inspector.
Then I wanted to make it even better by adding on screen controls so it is easier to use.
I used the information found in www.fcp.co/forum/6-motion-5/688-tutorial...al-cut-pro-x-effects to try and do this and I can't seem to get it to work. That is the part I need help with. It may be too much doing a track and then a link and just not work. If anyone has any ideas, please let e know.
Here is my project if you want to take a look. It will be really useful when i can get it to work.

Ok, I just updated the project, same link.
The on screen controls at least appear in the right place in Final Cut now, they just don't quite work and either won't move or disappear when you do move them.

So I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. If anyone can help me, I would still like to learn.
I did accomplish what I wanted though.

I took Alex 4D's Mask+ blog.alex4d.com/2012/03/06/mask-plus-fcpx-effects/ and added a clone layer of the effect source and applied the blurs to that and published the blur parameters.
Thanks Alex for your hard work in laying the foundation for this. I hope some people can find this useful.
