Metallic lettering

Probably a noob question, but here goes....

I'm looking to create gold / silver / red / blue / green shiny metallic animated lettering within motion and I can't quite get the look I'm after. Basically they still look too dull and flat.

Is it 'just' the colours, gradient and lighting or are there other specific filters etc I need to apply?

In the style tab change the 'Fill with' drop down to texture and drop a metallic texture into the image well.
I think there is a gold leaf texture that comes supplied somewhere in the content

It's probably not going to look as good as something made in a 3d program. I would look at mobject by motionvfx.com and see where that gets you, if you got the dough to throw at it. You can replicate the text in Z-space and get a similar 3D look, but its still very limiting.

Second time I've mentioned this book in 24 hours. LOL But the book "How To Cheat In Motion" has some tutorials on doing this really, really well inside of Motion. More complex than I'm willing to type out here, but that book is a must-have for anyone using Motion. It was written for Motion 4, but it all still applies to Motion 5 perfectly well.
